A Radio 2 broadcaster has just tweeted this:
Quote:
“Just heard Rhydian's new album. It's really rather good. Hear him & Whistle Test favs as we chase the rain early early Saturday on Radio2”

http://twitter.com/#!/richardallinson

His show is here:

Crack of dawn show but it's a good sign - a DJ who likes and will play him.

Maybe he will play the single SC.

We now have (via a press release) July 18th confirmed as the release date for Rhyd's first ever single.

This will be "Parade" taken from Rhyd's forthcoming album "Waves" which is released on August 1st.

We may get a first play on national radio early tomorrow morning (thanks for the information rattie )

Rhydian has waited a long time for a single release - he must be very excited. I certainly am

Exciting times Sweet

This came out from the offish tonight:
Quote:
“Rhydian's new album, "Waves", is to be released on 1st August. The single from this album, which is called "Parade", is to be released 2 weeks earlier, on 18th July. As we write it's only industry insiders who have heard it and they seem to love it!

Tomorrow morning on Radio 2, between 6am and 8am, "Parade" will feature on their "Saturday Shuffle" where they will play for you short clips of 3 new releases, including Rhydian's single, and ask listeners to vote by text for which one they want to hear the whole of. Naturally, we want it to be "Parade" but Rhydian will need your vote if people are to hear his song. The text is charged at whatever your normal rate is.

Here's how to vote.

Wait till the DJ tells you you can start voting (usually around 6.45 am).
Text VOTEC to 88291
Only one vote per mobile phone.
Some time before the program ends they will stop the voting (usually around 7.20am) and count the votes to see which one they will play in full. Don't vote after this. Rhydian's up against some stiff competition in Peter Andre and Joss Stone so he needs your vote!

We know you're going to love it!

Rhyd HQ”

That's wonderful!
The song is remarkable good and the interpretation is fantastic, as always indeed.
Brilliant choice for the first single.

I heard that too Rattie - I quite like it and it suits his voice and style well. The Showman is back!

If she had heard all of Rhyd's versions, she wouldn't be asking on RR if 'The Promise You Made' was done as a duet as of course she would know the answer to this.

I rest my (suit)case.

Or asking on Buzzjack if there were any rock songs on the album

Announcement from Conehead on their site:
Quote:
“*Rhydian’s first single ‘Parade’ will be released in mid-July and can already be heard on the radio. Roy White, of White and Torch – the original singers of the song – contacted us to say ‘Rhydian is a star – as stars should be. Parade is such a dramatic song it would take quite a singer to fill the original singer’s boots (That was me by the way, ha ha ha). Rhydian has done the job very nicely. Love it. I wish him all the luck in the universe.’”

He doesn't qualify for the radio playlists yet as he isn't within 4 weeks of release but let's hope he can get some radio play at last. He is a very talented guy, even those who don't like him don't dispute that, time to hear him in the charts

Part of the song sounds a bit like Dear Prudence (Beatles) for some reason.

Yes, it's very hard to argue seriously that he isn't extremely talented when there is so much independent evidence that he is: like a first class degree and a shedful of prizes. You don't get that for nothing, do you?

Avanti have this up now on their website re his TV series:
Quote:
“
Rhydian

This Autumn will see Rhydian Roberts present his very own series for S4C.

Joining him will be a star line-up of guests along with a showcase of exciting up and coming Welsh talent. Over a period of eight weeks, Rhydian will perform a number of his old favourites but also introduce us to his latest repertoire from his new album.

The new light entertainment series will be staged on a bespoke ‘Vegas-like’ set where Rhydian and his guests will provide us with a star-studded evening of performance.

From pop to classical arias, from street dancing to contemporary gymnastics, this truly promises to be a spectacular series for all!”

I was thinking BGT. Guess it was talk of gymnastics although of course Spelbound won't be appearing. That would be a coup if they had accepted an invite and performed to 'O Fortuna'.

I'm wondering if there's any duets planned. I'd love a Shirley Bassey duet but I'm day-dreaming here. I'm imagining 'This Is My Life' - Rhyd starts off and Shirley makes a grand entrance in one of her fabulous dresses darling! Then adds her own fab vocals.

Yep - S4C only as far as I know. You will be able to watch it on that new-fangled thing they call t'internet apparently.

At the recording of that TV special Rhydian did for S4C where he performed songs including 'Phantom of the Opera'; that was a mixture of Welsh & English wasn't it? Can't see this being all in Welsh as even if the guests were all Welsh, surely they aren't all fluent in Welsh? Plus of course not all the audience or TV viewers will speak Welsh. My Welsh is very limited (yeah I know I'm not Welsh ) but at least I can always give a 'Nos Da' before I leave at night.

Even though we know Rhydian can speak Welsh, there are times when he seems to appear to have to concentrate a bit more - that puzzled look he gets. So I can't imagine he'd want to speak Welsh all the way through - his brain would be frazzled by it all.

Yes Sue you are right about Rhyd's 2009 TV special But he also did The Big Welsh Talent show or something which was all in Welsh wasnt it?
I actually think some songs sound better in Welsh (eg I'm Coming Home Again)

I've never seen a TV show recorded (even my mum has seen Countdown recorded ) and I really hope that I can get to see one of Rhyd's shows.

Although these shows are for S4C they will be excellent experience for Rhydian who will be singing, presenting and interviewing
