Hello grim
I have had a great weekend seeing Rhyd singing/dancing/presenting in the recordings of his S4C series.
He sang Come What May (in Welsh) with Sophie Evans (Ginger Dorothy), and sang fantastically in Misere (taking the Andrea Bocelli part) with the Three Welsh Tenors and a young singer called Tara Bethan. Even better he sang Barcelona with Shan Cothi who looked fabulous in a close fitting red dress. Do not miss it when it is transmitted!
On Saturday morning we got solo Rhyd singing 6 songs which was an unexpected treat. They included GTPS, TID, Somewhere and The Promise (from Waves). Quite a lot of the songs are in Welsh-perhaps 2/3 or 3/4 of them.
Rhyd is looks stunning at the moment. I wouldn't want him to lose anymore weight though. His styling is great with some very sexy outfits.
I can't make the last recordings next week but am really looking forward to the shows when they appear on S4C
In his shows Rhyd sings solo, sings duets, sings group songs (for want of a better term), interviews his guests, and searches for, introduces and interviews young Welsh talents. He sings ballads, pop, musical theatre numbers and classical-crossover numbers. He sings with an orchestra, he sings with a band and accompanied by classical Welsh harp. He accompanies himself on the piano and dances with the lovely professional girl dancers.
He really is a fantastic entertainer!

I'm trying to imagine what it would sound like if they both did that song - I can't imagine it. Sometimes you can imagine certain people doing certain songs but with this one I can't imagine any of them doing this. I can imagine that a lot of people wouldn't be happy if they did do this duet together. I'd guess that a lot of Leona's fans would prefer someone else for her to duet with and probably a different song altogether.
The duet that I know definitely works for Rhydian is 'What If' with Idina Menzel which I love from his debut album.
Rhyd has now completed recording his TV show

Sweetcaroline,many thanks for posting links to the vids taken at Rhydian's latest gig (and many thanks also goes to Anne100 for taking them). They're really good and he certainly does look and sound on top form.
I'm really looking forward to his TV show starting, expecially after all the little bits of insider gos from those lucky peeps who went to the recordings. A weekly 'Rhydian Fix' is just what I need

Also on that thread (following page) Anne100 explains about Rhydian's recent throat problems. Just shows you what Rhyd's had to contend with healthwise whilst recording the series.
He is in France at the moment on a break so hopefully that will give him chance to rest his voice before he does his stint in Grease in a couple of weeks' time. There's also another appearance for him before the end of the year in 'We Will Rock You'.

I've been wondering, with Joe Mcelldery (sp?) releasing a classical crossover album (Classic) and now a Christmas one in the pipeline, do you think Rhyd should do a Christmas album? Not necessarily CC as maybe he is just trying different things for now
Joe's album has sold very well - but then he was on Popstar to Opera Star, I wonder if Rhyd would get a sales boost by appearing on those sorts of shows? Since he released a pop album (Waves) it may be a bit odd now.

Your question 'Should Rhyd do a Christmas album'? Umm, I'm not really sure. Can't really say that appeals to me personally. I'd rather him do a Christmas concert than a Christmas album.

Happy 4th Birthday to the DS RAT!
Sorry I haven't been around much...been busy busy with lots of Rhyd things as well as the rest of life!
I went to all the recordings of Rhyd's S4C show, which was a fantastic experience but obviously very hard work for Rhydian...he was doing over 12hour days and all with a fairly serious voice problem...not sure how he got through it, but he did. The concert in Port Talbot after it was icing on the cake...he was really looking forward to getting away to France for a proper rest.
Back now though and rehearsals have started for Grease.....Rhydian is playing Teen Angel which means only one song so it shouldn't put too much strain on his voice....hope it will all be back to full strength soon!
I'll try to pop in more often now that I'm back!
Anyway....where's the cake....or has somebody eaten it all!

Congratulations to the RAT on it's 4th birthday, it doesn't seem like 4 years does it?!

There's a promo on TalkSport at the moment for the Rugby World Cup which says:-
"Tom Jones, Richard Burton and Rhydian off 'The X Factor'. There are many reasons to celebrate Wales. ...."
The above is just part of the promo dialogue and I'm pleased that Rhydian hasn't been forgotten about. There will be some people who wish Rhyd could lose 'The X Factor' tag but that's where we first became aware of him as a singer/performer. The X Factor is a platform for any singer to show the public what they've got and the thing is there's no guarantee that they will succeed after the series has finished. On the night of that Final in 2007, I felt a slight panic - what if we don't hear from Rhydian again.
It didn't bear thinking about for me as I thought he had the potential to be a star.
Thankfully as we know he's had the chance to record an album with Syco (well 2 actually) and then onto a 3rd with an Independent label. Plus performing in front of Andrew Lloyd Webber, performing at the Royal Albert Hall, singing at the opening for events like the rugby this year and more. Then there's the Musical Theatre roles he's had - 'War of the Worlds'/'We Will Rock You' and soon we've the opportunity to see him in 'Grease'.
Anyway, I'm babbling on, but the point I'm trying to make is that I'm thankful that Rhyd got his platform via The X Factor and grabbed it with both hands.

The programme she had though was the smaller programme you would expect to see rather than the big glossy one on sale tonight so again maybe they haven’t had time to put Rhydian into it (although surely they have known for long enough)……..she has e mailed me a copy of the advert and I will post that up on the site shortly but a shame that wasn’t available tonight.
Anyway, that aside the curtain opened to a loud cheer and it was clear this was an audience who were going to enjoy themselves judging by the clapping along to the now very familiar songs. Typically the role of Danny was played by an understudy which meant several of the lead male roles had been juggled around but you would never have known it. The understudy was superb in his role as Danny as were all the others who had swapped roles. This is a very talented cast with no weak links. It is also a show full of subtle innuendo’s which didn’t escape the audiences attention!
Anyway, I knew that Teen Angel came on after the second half so I relaxed a bit for the first half but I was pretty wound up by the second half. I am glad I had seen that clip from the video as I knew that when Frenchie sat at the front of the stage Teen Angel would appear……..and appear he did, behind a screen as in the clip we have already seen but what I hadn’t expected were the cheers and shouts of RHYDIAN that went up when he appeared on stage……….this is one man who has definitely not been forgotten in England and I also heard a lot of Scottish and Irish accents around me applauding enthusiastically. The initial response from the audience was very encouraging and was a really good example of how an audience not made up of his fans respond to him. So he appeared on stage in a silver suit, blue shirt and (thank goodness) his BLONDE hair sweeped back in the style that we associate with Grease! He sounded fantastic, none of the audience would have known how he has struggled with his voice over the past couple of months. He didn’t put a note wrong. He had a lot of ladies dancing around him and a few cheeky bits in his act which the audience responded enthusiastically to……..and then it was over, far too soon. The applause he received IMO was greater than any of the cast that evening.
TBH after Rhydian’s bit the rest of the evening seemed quite tame but he did make a couple of appearances again towards the end and of course came back on stage to take his bows…….again, tremendous applause especially from some very enthusiatic ladies in the front who were dressed for the occasion and kept screaming for him after the curtain went down. I think they were Grease fans judging by their attire rather than Rhydian fans but it was good to see how much they had enjoyed his performance.”

Haha the audience loved it, you can hear them going nuts. Made that his own as he always does. It's one of the things that makes him stand out, he never copies anyone or any other portrayal of a character, it's always completely his own version.
