I have just bought one of these and I have a query.
On my Sky+HD box I connect the "RF out" socket to a second TV in another room. This allows me to watch a recording whilst someone else watches live TV on the main set. This doesn't appear to work on this recorder. Any ideas anyone? |

The RF connectors on this box are just looped through so the signals received at the aerial are fed through the box. Any other device connected to the RF out socket will receive all the analogue & Freeview channels.

Well after much communication with Philip's i can only assume they are wanting this box to die a quiet death and vanish forever.
The answer to everything is reload the latest software, format the HDD, factory reset the box, reset the remote which to be fair is utter bullshit, we didnt buy it to constantly doing all that crap. I have upgraded the aerial the philips box was using and with no boosters or anything all my other boxes now show the signal and quality at full strength, i know this isnt the most accurate measure but it does show accross the board a significant incease in signal strength. However on the Philips the signal strength moved up "a bit" to the E of excellent on the signal quality indicator. Laggy remote operation, multiple recordings of the same program on the same channel, lock ups when both tuners are in use still persist but at least stuttering seems to be tamed a little. I cant believe i am going to say this but i wished i had kept hold of my Thomson DTI 6300. |

They've been pushing the latest 7.21 OAD quite a lot lately which suggests to me that it will be the last ever update for this box. A damn shame as the hardware itself is good but there have been a lot of bugs in the software.

people need to email them but unfortunately i think people are understandably cheesed off with it and given up.
Providing i make sure the box never records 2 things at the same time and i constantly delete stuff it does seem a bit more tamed but i shouldn't have to do that really should i. |

Hold down the power button on the machine (not the remote) until "PHILIPS" appears on the display. The box will reset and you should find the laggy remote commands no longer lag. It seems to need this doing about once a fortnight. Failing that, do a full factory reset from the menu screen. You will lose your reserved programming and your favourites list and so on, but things should be back to normal. Failing that, do a hard disc wipe, reinstall 7.21 and do a factory reset. I have two of these boxes, and they are both buggy still, but not so much so as to make them useless! The picture quality is wonderful, and that is the main thing. And, like yourself I imagine, I paid next to nothing for them. Good luck! |

Thing is the box shouldn't be this fussy, my daughter is using a 10 quid Asda freeview box and the TV aerial in pointing downwards though her bedroom floor in to our living room and she doesn't even get picture break up, i said that isn't going to work in a million years but she proved me very wrong. If that doesn't demonstrate ample signal i don't know what does ill be honest.
I have noticed my box when it is standby often lights up briefly for no apparent reason, any idea why it does this? |

Well im sure if you opened up the box, there would only be a wire connecting to the 'halo' light which could be unplugged if needed

Take it back and get another if they have one? The first one I bought wouldn't turn on at all, but took it back for an exchange and the one I have now works perfectly.

But those programmes are not widescreen and are broadcast at 4:3 which the box correctly recognises.

I know that but my humax stretches them to both 16:19 automatically so I'm assuming that The Phillips box can't do this ?
