Thanks for the advice but since the programme is still called 'Doctor Who', not 'New Doctor Who', the quotation marks seem appropriate. May I also point out that 'new' Who is now around 5 years old so it is not actually that new anymore is it?

I do continue to watch DW partly out of hope, partly out of morbid curiosity.

If you don't agree with my views why not provide an argument against them? Surely that would be more constructive than making personal remarks?

I think there is a distinct possibility that his surname is chaudry. I have just checked the phone book and it seems to be the most popular.

Hey, I actually quite liked McCoy as The Doctor (although nobody could beat Tom Baker as he is The Doctor of my age group)

"Koschei" being the Master's name is not canonical - it will never be used in the TV series. It's quite interesting, thought, that in the new series, he never says anything like, "I'm called the Master," or "I'm known as the Master." He says "My name is the Master."

As for the Doctor's name... no point in speculating, it'll never be revealed. I do wonder, though, if people like Sydney Newman, David Whittaker, Malcolm Hulke and Robert Holmes ever actually decided what it really is.

I hope (and I thnk it likely) we will never know his name. I'd also like to think that when River Song whispered it in his ear it was the first time he'd heard it himself but instinctively knew it to be true.

If I was writing Doctor Who I would add this bit to the story:

When a Gallifrian is accepted as a Time Lord there is a ceremony. With Time Lords there is always a ceremony. But it is not just an empty ritual, during this ceremony the secrets of space and time are encoded into the very substance of their being and they are gifted the extra lives which allow them to briefly glimpse immortality.

They can also, should they so chose, take on a new name or title. And Time Lords being Time Lords, if they do their new name is written across the whole of eternity and the old irrevocably lost.

I always thought erasing all traces of someone's name from all of time sounded like the kind of punishment Time Lords would dish out to naughty run-aways

They should never reveal that the Doctor's name is Dave btw ”

McCoy is actually my least favourite. And as for Ace...everytime she says 'Professor' I just want to club her to death!

Why can't his name simply be The Doctor?

Says who ? You can get away with Ecclestone's accent by saying "every planet has a north" the same does not apply to a broad Scottish dialect. "every planet has a Scotland" doesn't quite sound right.
Apart from that, Sylv totally overacted almost as bad as Colin Baker did.

Funny, I always liked that
She always used "Doctor" when it was getting serious anyway, so the goofing around with "Professor" was harmless fun for me; plus the tag suited SMcC imo - but yeah, I know, I guess I am weird but I thought they were a great team together.

So there's only one Scotland but every planet has an analogue to Salford?

There's no more excuse for Eccleston's accent than McCoy's. To a Scot, McCoy's accent probably sounded less unbelievable than Eccleston's.

I agree with that, and to be truthful, the doctor's native language wouldn't be English anyway but something else. As such he is just adapting the language of the planet, or country he is in (as he did in tooth and claw). The accent is probably like a piece of clothing, it doesn't always have to be highbrow English, or Southeast English, sometimes it can be a northern accent, Welsh or a Scottish one.

Mcoy was appaling! In my opinion he ruined the entire show! Ive only seen dvds but he was just ridiculous, that gurning and the looks that he gave the camera! And Ace has to be categorically the worst companion ever! It seemed like she was brought into attract the young, hence her name and her attitude! Her whole character was cliched troubled teenager!
