I did my first ever grade (6) for LCM, got a merit just
i think what let me down (havent had the breakdown yet) was my pre 1920's peice i did 'When Frederick Was a Little Lad' from G&S Pirates, but i did it per patricia routledge version and ammended it to suit me rather than in an operatic voice!
My disscussion element was dire too i think!!
quite dissapointed really
Also the reason i decided against the operatic style was because i am scared it may affect me musical theatre vocals, am i being silly?!
i MUST get a distinction at grade 7!!! i will be so upset lol and i think i will have to go all out with the opera side!!

just wondering if anyone else has done them?
If so what was your experience with them?
I notice alot of the top 20 Dorothys did the ABRSM & LCM with Lauren doing LAMDA
Thanks

I've done LAMDA but only for verse&prose and acting, did my acting to grade 8.

To be honest, I'm not sure how it works for MT but I found LAMDA acting to be a bit rubbish... in that I can't act at all (can't do accents, can't do acting) yet I managed to pass grade 8 with distinction... hmm!

Yea i've done LCM and began at Grade 7. I achieved a merit in it, and my singing teacher told me it was because the examiner was known for being very harsh and she marked me down considerably for doing "As Long As He Needs Me" but obviously changing it to "She Needs Me" as I'm a guy.

Also I altered my pre 1920's song which was "Oh is there not one maiden breast!" by singing it in falsetto (which I didn't like as I'm sure you know us MT peeps like to belt it out) instead of going all out on the opera style, and I modernized it quite a lot, which she liked and didn't criticise.

Moving onto my Grade 8, I was quite sceptical of what I would achieve, and had a sore throat during my exam, but managed to pull it off and gain a distinction. Being awarded 96/100, which I was over the moon about.

It really depends on who your examiner is, and the normally do rotate. I'm not rehearsing for my Diploma, so hopefully it all goes well, and the best of luck to you for your grade 7!

I've got my National Diploma in Musical Theatre from the London College of Musi. I only dropped about 5 marks

I've done grades 3, 6, 7 and 8 LCM and got a distinction for each It really does depend on the examiner. For my grade 7, i had a throat infection and the examiner gave me 94/100, which is my highest mark, so maybe she felt sorry for me?! Doing the Diploma in the Winter. Best of luck in your grade 7 exam.

My daughter did LAMDA at a three year MT college and got silver and gold with distinctions. Have no idea what that means - there was alot of shakepeare for the silver level. Do know she scored 49 out of 50 for her acting when she did A levels and still barely passed as she couldn't be bothered to write the papers.

I did LCM Grade 8 and got Honours, only dropping a few marks (not sure now how many!) - but I loved doing it! It was always great fun It's the one thing I keep in my memory bank to remind me that unlike the loads of people going on X Factor thinking they can sing, I can! Might not be world famous, but hey

Well that sucks, I think that song can be applicable to either sex surely?!
