Here is a picture of the 'Silurians'.

Isn't that taking redesigning stuff too far! I don't mind the dalek redesign; but the "New Silurians" only have a similar head shape and colour, nothing like a Silurian.

I thought they weren't 'Silurians'.

More like their distant cousins - like the Sea Devils. Moff keeps saying there are no 'Silurians' in his Doctor Who!

But Neve Mackintosh is gorgeous without the scales - remember 'Gormenghast' or 'Hound of the Baskervilles' ?

As the article in DWM states these Silurians are being treated as a different branch of the same species

They're not meant to be the exact creatures that have been seen before. Like the Sea Devils they are another branch of Earth Reptile.

Same ones wearing masks I believe.

Daleks are substantially mechanical so can be redesigned to look like toasters and still be Daleks as long as they still hate other non-toasters lifeforms.

No different with Silurians. Moffat has said that these Silurians coming up are just a relation to the ones we've seen before (like the Sea Devils).

If anything, these Silurians look more reptilian than the old ones, which were cool - but after 40 years looked like rubber suits and sounded like farts in a bath.

They were still cool though

They look pretty cooler with the masks on though, but where the heck is the third eye. And the main eyes are orange. Even though they are a different branch of the species, they should at least have the third eye.

But the versions from the fifth Doctor still look quite realistic, and this just looks fake. IMO Most of the Old Who aliens would look worse if they invented and designed them the same for New Who.

Pythons and cobras are both species of snakes but they don't look exactly the same so why should all branches of Silurians look exactly the same

Another Point; I was just on the Cyberman page on the Doctor who wiki, looking to find out the cybernetics company they used in the Invasion, and the New Cybermen looked a lot cooler than before I saw the new Silurians.

The Same Basic Design, Which is the thing at the top of the head which is Timelordy and the third eye. They have made the heads just green Graske things with no third eye.

Pythons and Cobras have basically the same shape, a large tube thingy. These new things only have a slight resemblance to the proper silurians.

Why not just make them primary coloured, fat hunchbacks aswell?

Thats what appeals to todays audience, surely?

But what is a proper one as things change these are considered proper are they not of the same species, time has moved on TV and if current Who used the same costume designes from the 70s or the 80s then they would be laughable.

Or you could use humans as an example. Go back say 250,000 years and you find several living species of human all living together just as you get with the Silurians. These include Homo heidelbergensis and Homo erectus both existed at the same time as us. Go further back and you get Homo habilis, it died out before our time but existed alongside h. erectus.

I thought we'd already been told several times (at least once from the actress playing the parts) that the creatures depicted so far are Silurian/Human rather than pure-blood Silurian hence the fact they resemble human form much more closely than Silurians we have seen previously.

Also, I had to smile at the concept that either the Silurians or Sea Devils in "Warriors of the Deep" looked even remotely "realistic", between the ridiculous flashing red third eye denoting Silurian speech and the mouth that stubbornly refused to move when the Sea Devil tried to talk...throw into the mix the fact that the Silurians actually refer to the Sea Devils by a name which wasn't coined until the original episode "The Sea Devils" (and then by humanity) it seems any kind of deep-rooted outrage over the evolution of these creatures is at best a little amusing.

While there's been lots of talk about them being a different branch of Earth Reptile I can't recall seeing anything which said they were a human/silurian hybrid.

Actually, from a design point of view, I'm glad they got rid of the third eye which could burn through walls!

Considering they were originally supposed to be a different thread of evolution to man it never made sense having the third eye as a weapon let alone a dalek-esque flashing light in the 80's...I would love to hear the reaction of people who complain about redesigns/reimaginings if new Who just dusted off original costumes from the 70's and used them...would they be greeted with such fond regard? Somehow, I think the words "damned BBC" and "budget cuts" would appear faster than a Graham Norton IPP!

Mind you...we still have only still pics to go on: who's to say the third eye isn't concealed under the prostethic? Perhaps we should reserve judgement until we've seen them before we march en masse with our "Save our Silurian" placards on Cardiff
