Favourite songs from 1997
As we're (probably) in the dying embers of New Labour I'm celebrating the year Tony Blair rose to stardom. What are some of the songs you loved in the year which gave us The Spice Girls, our last UK Eurovision win, the funeral of Diana Princess of Wales and of course a new Labour Prime Minister?

There was a dance/trance song I really liked from this year but don't know the artist.
There weren't a great deal of vocals on the track but it was sung by a bloke and it started "I'm falling........I'm falling...." Don't suppose anyone can help?! |

Divine Comedy are back!
I think the Divene Comedy were one of the most fun bands of the 1990s ... and I just watched the video to their new single ... and was pleased to see they have a new album in the offing ... bring back the indie disco!

I suddenly realise nobody has profiled 1997 recently. I often think of it as the year the music went mad. We had a new no 1 best-selling single of all-time, and 8 million-sellers released, an all-time high. Not many of these were credible but never mind!
I also had a new no 1 fave song of the Decade, and no fewer than 13 songs from 1997 went on to my top 40 of the Decade! Anyway, my nos 14-20 of 1997 would have included: Whitetown:- Your Woman Reef:- Come Back Brighter Sheryl Crow:- A Change Would Do You Good Kylie Minogue:- Some Kinda Bliss Chumbawumba:- Tubthumping Louise:- Arms Around the World Levellers:- Dog House Nos 12/13: Eels:- Novocaine for the Soul All Saints:- I Know Where It's At No 11: Radiohead:- Karma Police Nos 6-10: No Doubt:- Don't Speak Monaco:- What Do You Want from Me? U2:- Staring at the Sun Third Eye Blind:- Semi-Charmed Life Jimmy Ray:- Are You Jimmy Ray Nos 4/5: Sash:- Stay Various Artists:- Perfect Day Top 3: 3 Kula Shaker:- Hush 2 Spice Girls:- Who Do You Think You Are? 1 Natalie Imbruglia:- Torn |

Another incredible year for Britpop. Oasis released Be Here Now, an album I still rate, and my other favourite band Space released 'Avenging Angels'.
And from my hometown of Derby, White Town's 'Your Woman' spent a week at No. 1. |
