Dont really see why the clerics on the beach are such a problem - they were either sent down when the ship finds out whats happened or even may have been left there at the start - didnt Octavian say he had 20 clerics at the start and I am not sure we saw that many in the caves. Presumably they were transported at the same time as river although we didnt actually see it.

Loved the vast majority of RTD's era with both CE and DT....
And I am loving SM and MS's era just as much, if not more!

I think that might make me in the minority on here. I just love Dr. Who!!!

That two parter was the dogs droopy bits!

I enjoyed much of the RTD series, especially series 4 with Donna, but for me there was too much utter crap e.g. Fear Her, Voyage of the Damned, Last of the Time Lords, The End of Time, Journey's End, The Doctor's Daughter, The Shakespeare Code, The Next Doctor, etc. not to mention such things as the Slitheen. RTD remade Dr Who but in the process turned it into a bit of Saturday night hokum.

Can you imagine such things as the Slitheen appearing in Moffat's Who? I can't. I never rated Eccleston at all and as for Tennant, when he was a good he was good but often the gurning, sanctimonious babbling about the wonderful human race and the Messiah complex became unbearable.

IMO, Moffat's tenure as the showrunner has totally transformed the programme, much more than I was expecting. It just feels different, less immature and more intelligent and subtle. And of course casting Matt Smith was a stroke of the purest genius.

Octavian had 20 Clerics at the start.

Octavian and three others (inc Bob) were killed by Angels.

4 went into the Crack of Time and were wiped from existance.

That leaves 13 Clerics who never went into the cave and stayed on the Beach.

As to where they went after River was teleported to the Prison ship, they no doubt got on board their dropship and went back to their orbiting ship.

Finally voted - good. It took a long time to decide on this as to my mind it was a weaker episode than last week's, but still a fine episode.
Sorry

I only watched it tonight... I voted good, although I thought it very good. I was reserving excellent... I didn't expect that many excellent votes.!

Without having read any other threads on this, I'd just like to say that I think Matt Smith was excellent in the role tonight/yesterday. The story was great, but I thought they got rid of the Angels too easily and I still don't know anything about them, their past etc etc. Where do they come from? And what is their motive?

My brain hurts

I don't think what he said to her was for THAT moment. if he wanted to come from the future tell her something, he'd have to find her at a time where she would not be with his current self, would not really be with others who would question him being there, and it would help for her not to be in a position of questioning him. she could not see him so would have no idea that he may not have been the person she was speaking to moments before.

I would have to say Octavian didn't bring them all into the caves. you'd want to leave some people with all your equipments and so on...you always want to have back up.

That last line made me laugh. I have visions of the angels walking around the set shouting at the director 'What is my motivation?!'

Finally caught up with this week's installment:

And, yup, another good'un, and better than last week, I thought.

Karen's 'Amy Pond' was much better in this episode. We actually saw her character reacting to things: the look of wonderment at the reveal of the 'oxygen factor', and concern over the Doctor leaving her. Simple, obvious reactions which have been oddly lacking these past few weeks.

And, OK, so it was a bit 'Carry On Doctor', and clearly done for laughs, but I didn't even mind the seduction scene at the end. It's an interesting choice to portray the new companion as, well, as a bit of 'go-er', but the performances in that scene were quite convincing. Smith consumately delivered the facade of a chaste Doctor, but one teetering on the precipice of temptation in the face of Amy's amorous entreaties. Was it worry over STIs that held him back?

So, it looks like the Doctor will be playing agony aunt/cupid next week as he strives to get Amy's relationship with Rory back on track! Will Amy still be bitter at his rejection tho'?

Again, another strong week for Alex Kingston - really liking her now, and I look forward to further appearances. Also, Moffat's certainly enjoying playing with his timelines...we now have River hinting at the events of the finale, plus a glimpse of a future Doctor!

So, yes, 'Flesh & Stone' was just a good story well told, I thought. It didn't try to be complex or meaningful - it went for mood and atmosphere and, for the most part, succeeded. And the performances were competent throughout.

If I had to pick at something, I thought more could have been made of Father Octavian's predicament before he died - I didn't quite think the true horror of his impending demise came out well enough. That *should* have been more powerful than it was...but I found a bit 'blah, blah, blah...'.

Anyway, I voted 'good'...

Regards,

Cypher

I've noticed them before, eg, when she was looking around Churchill's Bunker. They aren't always foregrounded like the forest was.

Octavian: I die in the knowledge that my courage didn't desert me at the end, and for that I thank god, and bless the path that takes you to safety.
Doctor: I wish I'd know you better.
Octavian: I think, sir, you know me at my best.
I found it quite powerful.

LOl this is funny....considering only a couple of days ago...you were doubting the status of Moff as a producer based on an article that the Daily fail had....and that apparently, everyone you "knew" agreed with you.....just goes to show that the moment that Moff does to something that you don't like....you will be on him like a ton of Bricks....

Once again in this series I had to vote "poor".

The last five minutes when Amy was chasing after the Doctor was like something out of a poor Carry On film. Pathetic.

the last 5 mins? That's why its poor because of the last five mins? You're just looking for a reason to hate it.

I agree, this was an extremely powerful scene - moving dialogue backed up by the subtle but obvious emotion shown in the doctors face.

Just watched the episode and it was the most continously exciting story to date IMO. Amy just had her first dependent episode and then started falling for the Doctor. All good stuff of course as it leads into the next story nicely.

As for the crack? My theory is Rose is trying to force her crack into our universe.

because the story arc is there is something wrong

1st amy doesnt remember the daleks when she should of done

2nd she goes around talking to people telling them that people must not call the doctor sir, when he has never told her this.

3rd she is after the doctor which is also wrong.
