I'm interpreting MT very loosely just call me Andrew Lloyd-Webber

Steph - I have a dream (Mamma Mia) yes, not technically MT but I said I was loosely interpreting it
Danielle - Take me or leave me (Rent) - well, it'd be good for a laugh anyway
Lauren - I won't say I'm in love (from Disney's Hercules )
Jenny - Can I have this dance? (HSM 3) - it would easily translate to a solo - and complete with choreography
Jessica - Hopelessly devoted to you (Grease) just so she can try and do something quite still and not keep gurning
Sophie - I don't know how to love him (Jesus Christ Superstar)

I hope that they sing songs that were not used in Maria, Joseph and Nancy, so we don't have the comparison discussions.

It would also be great if they sang songs sung by characters of a similar age to Dorothy.

That still gives them lots of scope.

What about -

Wouldn't it be luverly from My Fair Lady - maybe Steph?
All I ask of you (Phantom) - Jenny - see if she can do a big serious ballad.
There are worse things I could do (Grease) - Danielle
Favourite Things (Sound of Music) Sophie (they havn't done any SOM songs since Maria.
Oom pah pah (Oliver) Lauren - Good song to show a more fun side.

I actually love all of these songs and don't think they would be a stitch up for anyone (Poor Stephanie )

Thank you
Just realised I forgot Jessica - what about Truly Scrumptious from Chitty (slightly amended as it should really be a duet/three)

I think that song would suit Sophie perfectly.

Too many Nancy/Maria comparisons.

I think 'There are worse things I could do' would be perfect for Jessica.

It would. It would be good to see Danielle sing it, to see if she could get in character.

If only the producers were taking note of this thread. I'm in the camp who hopes they avoid the jukebox musical songs
Love the suggestion of “If I loved you” – in a similar vein I would like to hear one of:-
“Something wonderful” - the King and I
“I have dreamed” - the King and I
"Not While I'm Around" (don't know the musical)
and for more uptempo songs
“Being alive” = Company

Oh, I love 'I Have Dreamed', but I think it's way too grown-up and sophisticated for these young girls.

Yeah you're right. I think the posters suggesting some of the Grease songs are more in the ball park. I was just picking some of my favourite songs

I've chosen songs from oldies but goodies!

Lauren - Secret Love (Calamity Jane)

Jessica - There are Worse Things I Could Do (Grease)

Jenny - I Whistle a Happy Tune (The King and I)

Sophie - I'm in Love with a Wonderful Guy (South Pacific)

Danielle - I Could Have Danced All Night (My Fair Lady)

Steph - Goodnight, My Someone (The Music Man)

It's from Sweeney Todd, and I don't know... I love it, but it's a bit too cutesy and repetitive for them to use on OTR.

Other random ideas for songs for MT week:

Easy To Be Hard - Hair
Diva's Lament - Spamalot
Lady Marmalade - Moulin Rouge

I really like the three in bold! I don't know the others.

Argh, please don't stitch up Danielle. I don't think she has the soprano register for this. I'm not sure any of them could handle this - possibly Lauren.

As has been pointed out by Scott Matthewman they are fond of previously seen on Glee songs so I Could Have Danced All Night may well be used.

Actually (although I do like I Have Dreamed), what I meant to say was I love Something Wonderful, but it's too grown-up and sophisticated ...

i would love to see somebody attempt "astonishing" from little women - i think danielle possibly sang it in her first audition? it's such a lovely song. 'some things are meant to be' from the same show is also a very nice song, either altered slightly as a solo or used as a sing-off song.

1 - I feel pretty - West Side Story
2 - Sixteen Going On Seventeen - Sound of Music
3 - Wouldn't it be lovverly - My Fair Lady
4 - Hopelessly Devoted To You - Grease
5 - The Boy Next Door - Meet Me In St Louis
6 - Supercalifragilistic - Mary Poppins.

6 songs, all either sung by a young character or could be. Heavens, they're nearly relevant to the age group Dorothy is meant to belong to!

Ooh, love this selection! I was thinking of Secret Love for Danielle - it's about time she got a lovely ballad. Or I'd like to hear her do I've Never Been In Love Before, from Guys and Dolls. I know it's normally sung as a duet, but it could easily be sung as a solo.

Oh, and whoever it was who's worried about the soprano range of some of these suggestions, it's easy enough to transpose the song into a lower key - Barbara Dickson does a lovely version of that Guys and Dolls number and she has a contralto voice.
