I am new to Dr Who (only watched this series). I noticed that so far the Doctor had 'lost it' three times. Once in 'The Beast Below' and two in ep. 5 we saw last Saturday.

Now, do you think this 'rare' burst of anger will increase in the coming episodes and then maybe one ep. it will threaten to consume him (tempt him to embrace the 'dark side')?

Sorry if this is a silly question. Maybe the other Doctor incarnations had their fair share of 'tempers flare' moments as well.

I think it's more to do with his character, so his dark side probably won't consume him.

Anyway, enough about Peter Mandelson...

Some past Doctors have been irritable, the first two definitely had their moments. I guess a younger doctor would tend to be less mature emotionally.

Aren't virtually all the Doctors [or at least the actors who play them] Labour supporters?

David Tennant, Peter Davidson, Tom Baker and Matt Smith? Could be wrong though.

Also Jon Pertwee's son.
Unless one of the criteria used for selecting each Doctor is 'must support Labour', it's no more than coincidence.

Come to think of it, if the Tories cried about The Apprentice being on at election time why aren't they crying about Doctor Who?

I straddle between quite a few forums.

Serious ones like the Politics (normally lurk until now the elections),

Then silly, frivolous ones like Strictly Come Dancing thread (which is where my screen-name came from), Dancing On Ice.

And recently, at Easter, when I finally watched Dr Who because I knew Matt Smith as an (relatively) unknown actor whom I admire as a good actor, thus the Cult/Dr Who sub-forum.

So now can you see the confusion?

Well don'r go and make some lengthy political statement on Dancing On Ice or they might come and cart you away.
DOI is finished for now so I tend not to visit that forum that much.

I guess when the election is over, I will revert to 'lurking' mode in this forum.

Tony Blair, President of Tangolia.
I'm not sure if Mandelson is Davros the evil genius behind Nu Labour... er....I mean the Daleks or the Master (of the comeback).

Awww, I wanna keep the thread here

I concur with the OP, there is definitely a dark side to this Dr Who.

Tom Baker could rant when the pressure was on. I personally love a Dr who can let rip sometimes. And as I've said before, Matt Smith is, for me, the best Doctor since TB, without a doubt

I'm liking him much more than the last one so far.

I think the first Doctor and the sixth Doctor are going to be hard to beat.
The first Doctor was particularly nasty at times, anyone seen the original pilot? Cripes, he was evil lol.
The main feedback it got was that the Doctor should be nicer for it to become a series.

The sixth Doctor actually called his companion evil and then strangled her to the floor.
But I guess that was soon after his regeneration, but he was grumpy most of the time after that anyway.

I must agree. I understand Tennant was popular though. To misquote Dorothy Parker, he ran the gamut of emotions from A to B.

lol, I loved Hartnell's 'miserable old sod' Doctor. I also liked Colin Baker's psycho Doctor too.

Really? I didn't know. I feel like a child who's just discovered Dr Who series and everything is new to me and so I guess my OP looks a little silly now.

The Doctor losing his temper is nothing new. As has been mention, the Sixth Doctor was the best one for this as was the first but even the nicer Doctors like Troughton and Davison has their moments.

That's right. Troughton lost his temper in Evil of the Daleks and I can remember Davidson losing it a few times.

I think it is refreshing that the Doctor loses his temper occasionally.

Yep, Troughton also lost it in The War Games when Jamie wouldn't do as he was told when he tried to leave him and Zoe behind to escape the Time Lords!

On the other hand you've learned that each Doctor has a distinct personality even though they have similarities because they are the same person (well sort of). I missed many of the earlier TV series myself because I didn't watch that much TV when I was a child (too busy doing other things, not because my parents stopped me) and read the novelizations instead.

I used to get them from the local library along with enough additional books to fill a shopping trolley (yes I took a shopping trolley to the library when I was a kid and they let me use the library cards of my siblings and parents as well as my own). I could get through a book every two days back then on all sorts of subjects.

Hey, learning about all the other Doctor's is the fun part! I remember when I found out there were Doctor's before Tom Baker. I couldn't believe that he'd not only been played by some old fella but also by Worzel Gummidge as well! Happy days indeed!

5 got angry with Adric at the start of Earthshock over nothing, but that is the only time I've seen 5 being angry.

I think with Davison, he put a lot of Hartnell style 'grumpy' moments ino his performance than a full blow-out, aside from what you have just mentioned. I'm struggling to think of others for myself at the moment....
