I've just had a few days of watching Davison. I think he would have benefited from a more angry side.

If he had though, we wouldn't have had such a contrast when Colin Baker took over, now he really WAS angry......

I have worked on set with all three Doctor's since 1995 and i have really enjoyed my time on set with Smith & Gillan. My little part is still to come in episode 13.

I'd hardly call him one of my favourite companions (and he's probably my least favourite of all the male companions), but I didn't have that much of a problem with him, and would go so far as saying that, like you, I too like Adric. I actually remember being very upset when he died, because it was so unexpected.

I never really liked Colin Baker very much because his (the 6th) Doctor was so grumpy/angry so much, but then I heard Colin Baker say how he had plans for the character to develop, which got cut short by him being axed ... would have liked to have seen how that would have panned out.

Really? How did you get that job? (what job exactly). That is my dream job - to work on Doctor Who. I work in TV - just started though so if I were to work on Doctor Who it probably wouldnt be for some time lol

back on topic - I love Matt's moody side to the Doctor, makes a change from DT and CE (yeah they had some moody moments, but not like MS)

Been a jobbing extra for years, if you really want to get into it then go for it, through doing drama at school then being taken on with an agency i have done quite well, i ear enough to have a good lifestyle and pay the bills. Matt Smith is a top bloke and is my favourite Doctor of all, Eccleston was a perfectionist but ok, Tennant was well meh as a person.

I have said many times over the years Colin Baker had potential but he was mistreated terribly. I think The Sixth Doctor we saw in the Trial Season was the way I wish he'd played it from the off and as you say, if he'd been able to do another series or two I think he would have turned out to be a really good Doctor if he'd continued to play it along the lines of his second Season.

That doesn't mean he shouldn't have got angry now and again, that was part of his character, just not to be so unpleasant, that would have been good!

I prefer to think of his temper more as a hang-over from his tenth incarnation and the fact that he was not ready to leave that body. He didn't want to go so has much more of a hightened sense of loss and hence much more angry at the prospect of his own demise.

Of course, it could also be the knowledge that he is nearing the end of his cycle of regenerations, and at this time does not know how the BBC will allow him to continue past 12...

I find it interesting that the anger aimed at his own companion that came as such a surprise and as a powerful moment in DT's finale seems to be a recurring aspect of MS's incarnation.

It would be nice to think that this was some kind of deliberate collaboration between RTD and SM, but I think it's just coincidence.

No it's not silly at all, and as someone else said it's a nice change from some other threads. I think the beauty of the programme is that people might have become a "doctor who" fan at any time. I also understand that not everyone wants to go back and rewatch every single previous episode.

Quite a few people on here have said it, the first and the sixth doctor were quite volatile, although the sixth did calm down considerably. Interestingly even David Tennant was quite shouty at the beginning of his time (and angry), which I found quite hard after Christiopher Eccleston's doctor. Again, he calmed down a lot. Matt is more aggressive than David's doctor (David would not have been so happy about the weeping angel's impending death, he probably would have warned them). So far I haven't minded his aggression, because it seems to be based on real frustration and he is more aggressive (towards humans and other aliens).

I had not highlighted the bit I was referring to. I don't think that Moffat needs RTD's input, and I don't think I said so. . However, it's nice to have continuity from one doctor to the next, even if the previous headwriter is gone, and as far as I understood RTD and SM are friends and were probably discussing different aspects of the doctor's character during RTD's era. No reason to believe that they now stopped talking because SM has taken over.

Why would it be wrong if SM looked at the last two episodes of RTD tenth doctor and deciced to incorporate aspects of things he liked into his eleventh doctor?

I know nothing about acting and interested in what you've said as I read that Eccleston said the Doctor was played close to his own personality. Having also seen Eccleston on stage he does strike me as being very professional yet very natural in the way he plays any part. I love Smith's ability to go from one emotion to the next and he reminds me of Eccleston's era. Both put Tennant into the shade in my inexperienced opinion.

I've not seen much of Tennant apart from DW and Hamlet and he seems better suited to the latter - quiet anger than the shouty DW thing.

I think MS is hot when he's angry.
