When will the Doctor give Amy a key to the TARDIS?

Because that to me, is when she becomes a 'proper' assistant....

Looking back to series 3 with Martha, she didnt get her key til mid series - and by the way, the moment Martha 'became' the assistant for me in series 3 was in the Lazarus experiment where she ignored her family's pleas in the dinner party and she runs off down the hall, to the dramatic music back to the doctor.....

In Series 4, with Donna, however she 'became' the Assistant from day one for me!!

(as for Rose, series 1 and 2 were all about her from the offset so hard to say really)....

maybe when he's sure she ain't gonna try and jump him again...lol

I think he's gotta sort out a bit more what he thinks about her - about how everything seems to do with her - first

Could be more of a slow burner, as we know they are both on board for series 2 / 6 / 32

Where does he get the Tardis keys? Does he get them cut at a shoe shop? Is there a collection of them within the Tardis itself?

Well they just look like normal Yale keys, so I guess he can take them into Timpsons to get them cut

I don't think she needs one.

Remember in Victory, when she demanded the key back from Churchill? She handed that key back to the Doctor, but we don't actually know that she doesn't have one of her own. There's bound to be a "go back to the Tardis" scene at some point, they don't need to show her getting the key.

I assumed the 'taking it back off her' scene there was a deliberate jab at the 'being given' scenes.

In truth, much like the superphone thread, there's been no plot reason why Amy would need one - I would assume that if she'd stayed in the TARDIS in TToA like she was supposed to she would at least temporarily have one.

Ian and Barbara never had their own keys and they were 'proper' Assistants/Companions.

I don't remember Rose, Martha or Donna giving the keys back to the TARDIS. Perhaps the Doctor is sick of giving keys out now, as they are never returned and he has to keep changing the locks.

She was obviously disapointed that she was not allowed to keep the key Churchill had taken which would only be the case if she didn't have one herself.

Did any other Classic companion have them either?

Cool!!! I'm not a fan of this giving a key to the companion thing. Its a bit like your girlfriend moving in with you.

Its also this idea of companions thinking they will travel with the doctor forever even after hearing that he'll out live them

I think Sarah Jane Smith had one and I'm sure Susan had one.
