Our existing answer machine is tape driven and has been with us for many years. A handy part has been its ability to dial 1471 after every call received by it (whether message left or not) so that we could later tell who had called. We are now looking for a DECT phone with a built in digital answer machine but I cannot see that they have the 1471 facility. Can anyone advise please. Thanks.

The 1471 option is provided by BT. You do not need an answering machine to use it.Just dial 1471 on the phone

also, pretty much any digital DECT phone will keep a log of who has called, which you can just scoll through.

you might need to have the caller ID activated, but this is free if youre on BT, as part of their free privacy package.

Thanks for your quick replies. I am sorry if I didn't explain myself properly. If say we come home to three phone calls having been received and say the second one didn't leave a message then by then dialling 1471 will not give us that second callers number so the 1471 dialled by the machine at the time of the call having been received will retain that info for us. We do have caller ID at the moment-will the digital answering machine list the numbers as well as the messages and also numbers for those who didn't leave a message? Thank you.

yes it will do all that you said there.

If someone leaves a message, the phone will store the caller ID to let you know who left it.

If they didn't leave a message, it would store it in the missed call list - similar to a mobile phone.

you only need to call BT and ask for the free privacy package to be activated.

Mine stores the numbers of the last 40 incoming callers - and the date/time of those calls.
