Lust instead of love: a stroke of genius from SM! :)
I've been reading the threads about The Bedroom Scene, and it struck me that SM has really played a blinder here and got the perfect balance.
After the various "romance" themes of the RTD era, many of us were wondering how the Doctor/companion relationship would be treated in the Moffat era. We've already had the "mutual appreciation society" between Rose and Ten (series 2), which was moving at times, but sometimes came across as smug and irritating, and distracted from the main themes. Then we had the "unrequited love" theme in series 2, which played on the heart strings, but the downside was that it made the Doctor appear cold and insensitive at times, and diminished Martha as a companion. And then, in series 4, we had what many feel was the most satisfying dynamic: a warm and entirely platonic "best mates" relationship which successfully created a real bond without the slightest hint of any romantic stuff. (Some might say this proved that a strong friendship is better and more valuable than any other kind of love!) ![]() So where could Moffat go from there without going over old ground? Brilliantly, he's found a way to give us something new: i.e. Amy being a bit of a saucepot and getting the hots for the Doctor in the heat of the moment, without getting all slushy and puppy-dog-eyed about it. That means the relationship can develop into something strong and sincere and based on friendship, (like the Doctor/Donna) but avoid going down the road of being lovey-dovey or romantic. I loved the fact that Amy was upfront about it...she just suddenly felt amorous and saucy but made it clear she was only after one thing, and it wasn't true love! A very inspired way to go, and extremely funny too. I can't wait to see how the dynamic develops...

(....Oh dear, has this theme been discussed to death already?![]() ![]() (I haven't been on the forum much recently so, my apologies if I'm going over ground that has already been well-trodden.)

Well you know this place, everything gets discussed to death!!

I do enjoy wallowing in analysis of all this stuff...there's always so much to think about, which is great! Really enjoying the new series, much more than I expected to; I thought it would take me a few episodes to "get over" DT, but MS has really got me hooked!
