Shola

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGEnOqMhUYo (You might need somebody)

Lutricia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHkBUwLNiGk (I don;'t wanna feel like I'm Stranded)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8I3P...eature=related (Ain't that just the way)

I was a big fan of these 2 in the very late 90's era. But they have since vanished. Who remembers them? who thinks the songs I posted were masterpieces?

Great song, great times. They're good representation of true RnB music which we don't hear now.

I liked them both. Very stripped back r&b artists.

Ahh, the days before MP3, I saw Ain't that just the way on the Box music channel months before it was released and was desperate to get the cd single. Great record.

What do you think was the downfall of R&B music? and why? When did it die? What was the last decent R&B song?

I wish I knew! Maybe it's down to illegal downloading? TV talent shows? or countless "artists" only in it to make money ie. quantity over quality? I'm really not sure.

The 90s was the decade of R&B but there is still some good songs out there, eg. Plan B - She Said. I'm more into neo-soul music now but still listen to old R&B, the online radio station Sensation 99.9 plays good tunes all day without ads.

I think the popularity increase in pop music has a lot to do with it. Your Britneys, Christina, your boybands, girlbands...they all went down the same road around 2000/2001 and started to do what people 'thought' was r'n'b. I think the main examples of this i can give is N'Sync- Girlfriend, Britney- I'm a Slave, Christina- Dirrty.
RnB seemed to be redefined and from that most genuwine rnb artists changed their sounds.

You do set some good rnb groups now but they're generally forgotten or released under the radar.

Still listen to Shola - her first album still sounds excellent - the 2nd has quite a few good tracks...the 3rd not so many but still okay

Shola Ama... a true natural talent... and i loved 'You Might Need Somebody' a total 90's classic... just a shame her career didn't last too long.
