Is it used to much in 'Who'?

Would you much rather see lots of other new and different plantets suffer than always the same old boring Earth?

Yes, but that involves backstory and budget.

The producers once said they would still struggle with a Hollywood budget as there is so much ambition in the show. Honestly, you could give them all the money in the world and it wouldn't be enough

Kenneth Branagh as the Doctor, Christopher Lee as the Master. Cate Blanchett for some new villainess. Johnny Depp should be in there too as some mad old loon

They have a much bigger budget now than they used to, although looking at PotD, it's not evident that it is well used!

What has been VERY overused esp by RTD is the big menace that doesn't just threaten but actually kills large numbers of people, followed by his beloved reset button. It makes it less effective as deaths become so common. Having watched 'City of Death' recently, there were TWO deaths, and they were both accomplices of the villain!

Less earth would be good, though a lot of the time you end up indoors...

Very Americanised there Jim Carrey and Doctor Who would be an awesome combination though. Gillian Anderson as the Rani!!!!!

unlikely to say the least. Firstly, budgets don't guarantee anything (waterworld?) secondly special effects look pretty ropey after 10-15 yrs.

Thirdly, its a tough competition:

Metropolis
Forbidden Planet
2001
Star Wars
Bladerunner

....for starters

Four -

replacing a good cast with US 'stars' defeats the purpose. guest roles maybe.

Doctor Who's Britishness is its very essence. Do not Americanise it any way, and keep Jim Carrey as far away from it as possible! By all means have some American characters in it (e.g. Peri, Captain Jack Harkness), but keep the Doctor as British as it is possible for an outer space alien to be.

Why this obsession with bringing back the Rani? The two stories this character appeared in during the Eighties are two of my least favourite of all time, so please don't bring the Rani. On the other hand, if she's to be played by Gillian Anderson, bring her back as often as you like!

Gillian Anderson, having lived in london until she was 17, can undoubtedly do an english accent!
