I think MS might make me lose interest

I'm a long time fan, including the old lot lol.
I liked CE, I loved DT. I actually would have liked to see DT stay for a year with the new crew.

When I first saw Matt Smith I was open minded and after ep1 I thought he did really well and I thought I would like him.

Maybe it's still early days but 3 episodes in and I just dont really care anymore. I used to make sure I was home on a saturday night to watch it on bbc1. Watching on the iplayer was a sin lol. I hope things change, but he's definately lacking a certain something. Of course, might not be him, could be the new writer but it makes me sad that dr who isnt something I really look forward to now

I think it's a case of "Post-David Tennant" Syndrome and not appreciating enough of what Matt Smith can do instead of what he can't do and that's be David Tennant.

So, any clues to what it is you feel you're missing? Otherwise, we can't really have much of a discussion....

I'm starting to feel a bit indifferent, too. I honestly don't like Amy and Matt, whilst okay, hasn't grabbed me enough yet.

I think I want him to slow down a tad, it's like watching a rambling whirlwind right now and I have trouble following him.

I could go on about the post traumatic Tenant disorder but being fair I fell the same way about Peter Davison when he took the role. (I hated it when he was unravelling TB scarf)

I think its just a matter time, it could take you until Matt Smiths next series until you begin miss him and the show. David Tenant was a heavy weight and as much as I'm in the Tom Baker as my Doctor Camp I have to confess that DT was more like a Hollywood movie style leading man doctor. Which none of his previous incarnations were and he did make girls like Sci Fi.

This kind of thing is uttered whenever a new actor takes on the reigns. I would think you are in the minority, it's not as if this Dr has a multicoloured patchwork trench coat (sorry Colin) Apathy is a killer, just a very slow killer

I think that after DT, and the emotional roller coaster he was on, it is hard to find anything much emotional about MS, apart from the fact he seems to get angry and shout. DT had emotional input with all his companions, the Doctor now seems strangely unconnected to his companion.

I suppose RTD wrote more "soap opera" type scripts and SM is taking things along a more serious, technical route. I just don't feel connected to the Doctor anymore and I can't take to Amy either. There is a strange lack of warmth in this series.

The only episode I have re-watched so far is TEH and I don't feel any compulsion to buy the Box Set when it is issued. In previous years I've rewatched episodes until I virtually know all the dialogue! Not this year, though.

That's another thing - his outfit looks totally ridiculous IMHO!

That's fascinating - it's the complete opposite of my tastes. I had specifically thought to myself that this is the first series that I would actually want to buy the box set as soon as it comes out, because I have enjoyed rewatching them so much.

CE was and always will be my Doctor. I am a huge fan of Chris anyway, I hated David at first but by the time New Earth had finished I was hooked!

I don't think it's Matt's fault, I blame the writing, it just doesn't have the wow factor of RTD at the moment but I'm hoping that will change.

I like Matt's Doctor, not keen on the clothes but I do like him not sure about Amy always saving the day though!

Well it would be a boring old world if we all thought the same!

I think the writing lacks the common touch. I'm not a sci fi fan as such, the only sci fi I watch is Dr. Who and I think if it gets too sci-fi and not enough soap then I'll just lose interest in it. I think RTD was severely underrated by some.

I'm loving Matt Smith. I can understand though that when you really like a show, that when they make massive changes, particularly the casting of the lead character, that it's hard for people that loved the show, as it was, to adjust to the new show and person.

I'd suggest not putting pressure on yourself to like Matt and just watch each episode. Hopefully you'll start to like him in the roll and get that old feeling back.

In all the years of watching Dr Who, I never ever do not like the SLs. However, I really dislike the current series up to Episode 5. I think the storylines are awful and the Dr is talking far far too much with Amy (as in Ep 5) . I cannot stand Amy and as for the MS' version of The Doctor. sigh....

Just my personal opinion,of course

i cannot believe this forum!!!
Matt is such a strong actor and the stories are nothing short of phenomenal, i mean the last two parter ticked all the boxes and more!!!
Matt is MY doctor for sure!! so much mystery this series and i hope Matt manages at least 5 years as the doctor...he is the best since Tom Baker for sure, i did really like Chris and Mr Tennant too!!
but Matt just IS the doctor for me! and aint nuttin' gonna change that

Nail on the head for me. I can't seem to connect to anyone yet. I desperately want to love it, too.

Maybe Rory will bring in the more human touch, which I feel Amy lacks, and will give the Doctor something humorous and emotional to bounce his lines from.

Never! One season is more than enough - from what I have seen so far!!

Ditto. The thing for me is Matt Smith's dialogue and his delivery of his lines. On some occasions I can hardly tell what he says.

That is my feeling too, I have yet to see or hear anything that makes me care about Amy or the Doctor really. I really want to fall in love with it too, but I feel like a 'casual viewer' now and I am only watching it because my 6 year old wants to.

I want the warmth of the RTD years, I want real interaction with someone, we know nothing about Amy 5 episodes in, there is no family connection, we have no idea who Annette Crosby is or the good looking chap who lived with her, I want more I suppose, I have grown to expect more.

We knew Marthas family in the first episode of her appearance, the same with Rose and Donnas family were already known to us through the xmas special.

I think the couple of dodgy stories early on has not helped me either.

I know this is MY problem, but I just cant get into it, like I wanted to I would have loved seeing RTD write for MS, I think I would have warmed to himm far quicker with a touch of his writing.

I'm the same; whilst there were certainly some cracking DT episodes, I very rarely watched any more than once.

This series however I'm absolutely loving and have rewatched each one twice .

Will definitely be buying the box set and the only other boxset I have is the wonderful CE one

My elderly parents are casual viewers and have given up because tthey struggle with the dialogue and 'can't hear a thing that new bloke says'.

Talking about buying copies, I have already preordered the first volume for my little one, but I will not be buying the series for myself, a first since nuWho arrived, we have 2 copies of each series in the house.

But that is how some people feel...and they have the right to feel like that. I don't necessarily agree about Matt and Karen, as i am loving both of them very much! But this is the first series where only two of the five first stories have clicked with me....usually its only one that may not do a great job...but this series its three stories that have left me feeling cold. But I know its not the end of the world...so what...there are 8 episodes left, and they just could end up being my all time favourites. I am glad though that over all this series has been doing majorily well with people! And long may it continue!

Are we 5 episodes in already? wow.
I think it is more of the writing than matt. He puts a lot into it and I think it works but still something is missing. I did find in the 2nd part of the angels episode that he just had too many words to say and he says them quick, almost muttering to himself I think. Strange though, I really liked that in Daniel Jackson on stargate.

I guess we're lucky these days to have iplayers, sky+ etc so we dont miss an episode. I think to sum it up if I had loosely planned to be home by 6pm on a saturday and was running late it wouldnt really bother me to miss an episode. That simply isnt the case with the previous doctors.
I hope it changes.

Initially, I thought I had hearing problems or bad audio!
His delivery is like joining up all the words together without spaces!! My OH said exactly the same things as you and doze off and he is a Dr Who fan
