Kittens eating adult cat food

We have a nursing female who has three 5 1/2 week old kittens who have just started weaning.

Is it safe for them to be eating the mothers food? We have tried to put down seperate food for them (kitten food), but the mother always eats that, and they always go for the mothers food

Didnt want to put down just kitten food, incase it wasnt nutritious enough for the nursing mother, and concerned incase the adult cat food has an ill effect on the kittens

The kittens will be fine with adult cat food. Kitten food didn't exist until a few years ago so all kittens just got regular Whiskas/Felix (or whatever).

My cats were like yours, they always wanted the kitten food, the kittens always wanted the cat food - they're awkward like that. I gave up with kitten food last time, it's a marketing con IMO.

we feed winnie adult food (she's 11 months old). she's fine. Like Lippincote said, its mostly a marketing thing. we started feeding her kitten food and I get it when I can but mostly she eats adult food with no problem.
