Hi i had to resently have my daughters hamster put to sleep after a year, due to illness i got her another one a 8/10 weeks old female, but she keeps nipping i no that they can when there young but is there a way of trying to stop this or will she grow out of it, she's not afraid of your hand's and happily walks on to them, it's when she's on them she nips, the other hamster never done this so it's new to me, any advice welcome, thank you.

Unfortunately hamsters are notoriously bitey (the reason I have guinea pigs instead!), especially if they haven't been used to being handled.

If your hamster is biting it is either because it's scared or, sometimes, because your hand smells like food. Here's a good websites with tips for fearful bitey hamster.

there are some vitimins you can add to their water, some of which are apparenlty meant to reduce stress. might help? they sell them in pets at home. its about £6 though, but should last a long time.
