Hi everyone. My 12 year old springer spaniel Sam has a really dry and rough nose. I have no idea what it is or how to fix it. Just a little worried as he's getting on a bit.

Thanks for any advice/info given.

we got a bottle of liquid parafin off our vet for the same problem
i just pour some into the cap off the bottle and tip it onto his nose and it does the trick
it does need done every now and then though

I didn't think it was anything to be concerned about unless it was warm/hot which could indicate illness in some form.

How is he in himself? Any change in behaviour at all? Symtoms of any illness?

If concerned ring your Vet to enquire.

Not as bad as that and its the same colour as his nose.

Its at the back area of the nose just before it meets his coat.

Think it's just an older dog problem really all our elderly doggies have had it to some degree or other - vet suggested moisturiser and we have found Vaseline is pretty good.

i don't think its anything to worry about unless the dog seems poorly in itself. Its a bit of a myth that a healthy dog has a wet nose. I have 2 GSD's-my eldest is 5 and her nose is constantly cold and wet where as the youngests(3) nose is always dry and warm. Both are healthy.
But a bit of vaseline helps keep it from cracking.

We used to have a dog who had a missing tear duct. And her nose was dry majority of the time. We used to just put Vaseline on it I highly recommend vaseline.
