Finally the day arrived when we went to see Rolando...

We even managed a rather fuzzy picture of him and my wife http://www.seeviewo.org/seeview/down...ms_Rolando.jpg

... I didn't get a cuddle

I’ve long been a fan of Rolando his from his performances alongside Anna Netrebko in 19th century Italian opera and I think this is as much a departure for Rolando as it was for me.

Paul McCreesh and the Gabrieli Players were in their comfort zone playing this music and that really came across as they were quite delightful. There’s a clip of Rolando during a recording session with Paul McCreesh and the Gabrieli Players here…

The supporting soprano Lucy Crowe was excellent IMO. I hadn’t heard her before, but there’s a clip from YouTube here…

As the reviews hinted Rolando did seem a little quiet in parts before the interval but his personality and enthusiasm for the music came across throughout. After the interval Rolando seemed to step up a gear and for his two encores was definitely firing on all cylinders. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable show…

As a bonus Rolando stayed after the show to sign programs and various other items… and despite the staff trying to chivvy things along took the time to chat to everyone who went up – so thank you Rolando.

Quite a positive review in the FT too which pretty much agrees with my own http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/9e8fbbe6-5...44feab49a.html
