Plenty of artists are starting to do it now. Every song by Lady Gaga is released in physical single form and beyonce has said she is hoping to do so for her next album while Rihanna said she was interested in doing it. There are also other bands who constantly do it, its just harder to find, and your average HMV won't sell them. The internet or indivudual CD shops would.

Most HMV stores stock the big releases, the ones they know that will sell.

I do miss CD singles though. Downloads are paying for nothing, at least you can see, touch and sell a physical CD. I bought the new Faithless single from Tesco today If there's a choice between the download and the CD, I'd always choose the CD.

I'm dreading the day physical CD albums start to become hard to find, that'll be a sad day

I agree with that. I never really bought singles. Usually when I liked a single I'd buy the album. So I don't want the physical CD albums to ever go. I like having the proper case, artwork etc.

I miss it because I always knew when new songs are out. Now I have sift through a lot of crap unknown music to find anything 'known' you know not mainstream just a lil bit popular.

At least when I went to the rock singles section in HMV I could find new artists but also ones already established.

Doing limited edition physical singles is a good idea these days, because they've become something of a collector's item. Especially 7" vinyls.

On the whole, I do miss the physical singles but there are definitely still those who do them.

buying a physical CD is all part of the experience, you can take them everywhere! and you have amazing booklets too.
i will protest if they start dissappearing from shop shelves! physical CD's are wat make the world go round and would hate it when Cd's are just downloaded. albums should be purchased physically dang it!!!
so i hope this remains for years to come i am sure it will for at least two or three decades but a lot of my albums i want are older releases too like Rolling Stones etc. and a few new releases (Scissor Sisters,Xtina,Britney,Madonna,Kelis etc.)
but the CD won't die out!! it CAN'T!!

I still prefer buying vinyl and i'm glad to see that most artists in the charts release their singles and albums on vinyl. Sure you might only be able to get them in a really big HMV or online but it's still better than an mp3. People will buy anything though. If you shove it in their face at a cheap enough price i assure you they will buy it. If the supermarkets and record stores got behind music again and started stocking the vinyls and CDs instores there would be a lot more people buying them.

CD is good because of it's portability but it is an outdated format. CD has never advanced since it first came out and you would be surprised at the kind of sound quality you can actually put on a CD but of course record companies don't do it. Most people don't have big sound systems to appreciate it so they just keep churning out the same kind of quality over and over again. Super audio CDs did ok for a while but people just didn't buy them or have any surround sound equipment at home.

Forget CD's I'm missing vinyl's , I think I've got vinyl withdrawal syndrome. Although I did find a fantastic little independent record store, that allows me to trawl through albums for hours upon end. I was gutted when Head closed they used to have a large range of vinyl's in stock as well. As for CD's I find HMV is great for new releases and at my local HMV the guy usually orders it from the net to the store if they have any in stock. I can also get 7" from there as well

I never download music and I still buy CD singles from HMV.

The reason is that the CD is still the best sound quality available, so until there is anything better I will stick with it.

I think each town centre has at least one big HMV and their usually quite good for vinyls but their website is obviously a lot cheaper. Even CDWOW still sell vinyl and Amazon are not too bad either. It's obviously no substitute for going and holding it and your hands and buying but if you can wait a few days it's still a good feeling.

I think they should do them, as not everyone's got the Internet but likes music in the form of CDs. I'd much prefer to have a physical CD over a digital file any day, as you don't get CD sound from an MP3 file.

I do CD singles nowadays are just those boring 2 tracks but it's still beter than nothing. Bring back the maxi singles!!!

If any physical is available for a song i like i will always buy it (including picture discs which seem to be coming back into fashion ) Some artists are still quite generous like Lady GaGa which is good.

HMV.com is the best place i find, although their 7" sleeves always arrive cracked!

Nope.
As there is no where, at all, when you can buy singles.
No HMV. No Woolies. No nothing.

My room is stacked to the ceiling with CD's from over the years.
So there'd be no more room for any!

Downloading is much easier I think.

Even through I only play them once to put them on the hard drive I never buy any music other than on CD... or DVD in the case of a whole opera.

I can't stand the thought of one day loosing the album only to find I can no longer replace it. Having the physical CD safely tucked away is peace of mind!

No, because I still buy them. Often German, US or Australian ones.

Have never paid to download a single.
