Yeah, one of my all time favorite stories.

Urban legend has it that Midge Ure came up with the name of his band from that episode. The robots were classed as (D)umb, (V)oc and (S)uper Voc so he called the band Ultravox.

Hey, may be true

It was the first Who DVD I bought. Saw it as a child and it stuck in my mind.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this story is utter nonsense: Ultravox were a group in existence some time before The Robots Of Death was aired.

And Midge Ure did not form Ultravox - he was just hired as a replacement for John Foxx in 1979 - so they weren't 'his' band at all.

So this is a rather feeble urban myth invented by someone with no grasp on the facts.

But Robots Of Death is still a great story!

A bit harsh considering the poster was quite clear about the urban myth, leaning very much to the conclusion that it was bollox!

But agree with you on RoD, classic who at its classiest!

I wasn't being harsh on the poster - just on the person who invented that ridiculous story!

It is practically a flawless story.
I love the robots, their voices and their look is just cool.

So many classic moments:

Actually, I would take -

Quote:
“Sorry to burst your bubble, but this story is utter nonsense”

As a bit of a harsh rebuke considering I said it was an Urban Legend.

Still, lets not get distracted by how brilliant Robots of Death is.

Sorry if you took it that way - it wasn't intended like that at all.

And, as you say, this shouldn't detract from this story's brilliance.

Did anyone else think that the Host from VotD was originally going to be a Robot a la RoD before it was shown!

I also thought it might have been Axon!

...Anyway...!

I love Robots of Death - it's easily up there with Genesis of the Daleks.

I'm not really keen on the design aspects of this story(Robots aside) but apart from that little niggle, I like this story. I love the moments of humour and the way The Doctor just goads Taren Capel while lying under that huge needle thing was brilliant!

My favourite line of the entire show, can't remember it exactly, was when he told Brain Croucher in scientific terms that his mouth was bigger than his brain! Classic Stuff!

As for the squeaky Leela.....
