I always find it amusing how some men seem to worry or get upset about going bald/ thinning on top. I am 28 now and I have been thinning on top for the last 8-10 years. It really doesn't bother me if I eventually go bald. Why do some men see it as the end of the world though? Is it just vanity or something deeper/more sinister? Is anybody else bald/thinning? Does it bother you atall? What age did you go bald/ start going bald? Also, is it a myth that women find bald men more attractive?

My younger brother is 19 and has about half the hair on top he did a year ago, for him it is vanity mixed with the fact that it is 'unfair' as he is so young. It has dented his confidence massively and after losing 3 stone last year and toning up, is a massive shame. He cannot shave his head as he is a tall bloke with a big frame, and would look like a thug. He doesn't have the right face for a bald head anyway. He will not leave the house without a hat on now, and has lost a job because of a refusal to take it off.

I think with most men within the normal age range for hair loss it is the feeling of thier youth on its way out, and middle age coming.

I do not think it's vain at all, and i would be traumatised if it happened to me, so i can understand why some men struggle.

If I was to go bald It would really upset me.

I would probably recluse myself.

It must be horrible to go from a luschious,thick head of hair, to baldness. Maybe some women prefer bald guys but personally I don't.

I have ridiculously thick hair and would like a bit less!

Male pattern baldness seems so far to have avoided me and at 32 I still have a very much full head of hair with no signs of thinning at all.

I guess it must be a shock for anyone to lose their hair, because it makes up part of their appearance and their identity. Just like a new hairstyle can change the way you look and feel about yourself losing your hair must do the same thing. And of course unlike a new haircut you don't have any choice over it either.

Condsdering my father was reduced to a comb over at 26 I think I'm doing rather well at 44 with a full head. Ok, It's receeding a bit at the front but not noticeably.
I did shave my head a few years back as an act of contrition. it looked fine but was a b it chilly.

Tis very grey at the sides now.

I receded long ago. Keep cropped. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

That's because it's your mothers side who gives you (or not)the baldness gene.

Seem to when I've been in there, it's not as busy as here so if it's attention people are after here is better.

I know MPB is a big issue for a lot of men but fashion and "beauty" perhaps less so. That's why I asked. Now I convey the image of a stinking slob in an old cardigan with holes in and a comb over, don't I?

The only people who say it doesn't matter if you are bald or not is people with a full head of hair.

A bald person can lose their self confidence especially if they are young and if you want to make an actor look older what do you do.......you give them a bald wig with white hair round the sides.


So a full head of hair does matter.

It's like saying it doesn't matter if you have a big schlong or not.

Men who have a big one have more confidence than men who have a little one.

Same as tall men are often more confident that short men.
Thin people are often more confident than fat people.

My mum's dad was bald as a coot. Neither me nor my brothers are so that's a load of bunk. We have MPB the same as my father. Thinned and receded.

Just wondered how many guys with a full head of hair actually shave it all off. Its would seem that most women ( and men) seem to find this very sexy. I dont and I wouldnt but like to be in a minority

Did it a few years ago, all the way done to the skin. Looked Ok but i found it a bit chilly. Mrs. Bleads hardly noticed TBH

I did notice people got out of my way in the street more and I was served much faster in the pub.

Bald men generally look the same.

It's not a bad or amazing look - it's traditionally an average, mature, brutish, rugged, thuggish, bankerish-type of look, which not all men want to come across as ALL the time - especially when the personality doesn't match. That creates feelings of insecurity and awkwardness around people.

Wigs and old man hats are socially unacceptable. Baseball caps and hoods are associated with chav culture – in summer, holiday-makers.

There are only negative sides to not having hair. Hence, the fuss.

But, he's not sexy in the least and has a funny shaped head. No thanks.

My 16 yr old son was a tad quiet this morning. When I asked him what was bothering him, he said he was worried about going bald when he is older. he has really lovely hair. He was concerned as he realises that his confidence is quite tied to how he views his personal appearance.
My son insists that he has the wrong sort of head shape to suit being bald.

His father is just about totally bald.

Ii did try to reassure him, but most of it fell on deaf ears!

He said that he would get a hair transplant if necessary and I did try to google pics of Russ Abbott horrendous hair plugs!

I hope that when he comes home from school tonite that he will have forgotten about it, until next time!
