The phone doesn't ring - HTC Desire [Orange]
sm152

I am getting a lot of missed call text (from orange) even though the phone is on and has full 3g signal. Is anyone having this problem? I don;t know whether it's the problem with the phone or network.

Im on Orange, using the HTC Desire. No issues here. (edinburgh)

Try your sim in another phone / another sim in the htc for a few hours?

There are a couple of other threads about this further down the page.

Hi sm152,

We would need you to contact Customer Services so we can look into this further. The SIM swap suggestion is a good idea though.

Please send an email to customer.services@orange.co.uk, including your contact details and username from this site, and I will give you a call to discuss.

In order that your email is forwarded to me quickly, please add "Jonathan Orange Response" in the subject field and also in the first line of your mail.

Kind regards,

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan

Thank you for your help, I've received a text confirming that the sim card has been reset and the phone is now showing a correct number. I'll give it a few days and see how it goes and will contact you if the problem still persists.

Many thanks again for your help.

Hi, I too have the same issue. Can you contact me to say what type of SMS update is required to resolve this issue? Thanks

Are your calls going straight to your answering machine?

I have this on my iPhone, orange say it's a transmitter issue.

Yes, my calls go straight to voicemail.

I found that when I checked the phone number of the SIM card - via Phone Identity option - it was showing the temporary number rather than the ported one so Johnathan did a SIM reset via SMS and since then everything seems to be ok so far.

Thanks sm152. Phone Identity shows my mobile no. in there correctly. Today I got a 1 second ring then went straight to answer phone just as I reached for it. Orange Response, if you're reading then is there another course of action ?
Thanks

Er, it's probably better to ring them rather than hope they're reading a forum, isn't it?

Andy & Jonathan

Doesn't seem like the SIM reset trick fixes the problem, today, couple of calls seem to go straight to voice mail. I'll put the sim into my old phone and see whether the problem still persist.

In my case, I don't even get a ring - calls just go straight to voice mail...

Are you in a 3g area when the said missed calls happened..?? as a problem with the desire (and most other smart phones) is that whilst the phone is connected to the net they can't recieve calls, now this isn't a fault with the phone but more to do with 2g networks, now as the desire is nearly always connecting to the net for various reasons ie friends stream, weather etc etc then the chance of missing a call in a non 3g area increases..!!! now there is a simple solution to this problem, increase the time scale in which said apps need access to the net and or if you are waiting for an important call switch off mobile internet. (there is a widget already installed that does this... it under settings in the widget menu..)

Give this a try...???

Sorry forgot to mention that this should not happen when in a 3g area...

Jonathan and Andy, please can you at least recognise that this is an ongoing problem with Orange? When I call about missed calls in 2g mode, it's always breaking news!

@okuda - Are you really happy to always be turning off your data when you want to receive calls? I think that is unacceptable and not what I was contracted for.

I've been waiting 3 days to register and post this (roll)

I have found that on Orange if you have the Internet open it doesn't ring. For some reason the whole of your bandwidth must be allocated to the data hence no incoming calls. This is true for 2G and 3G, also if you have it open in the back ground. So far a Simple solution is to download Dolphin Browser HD web browser (Which BTW is a free app so Im not trying to get anyone to buy anything). A colleague suggested it as a great browser and when installing it I was prompted to set it as default. After this I repeated all of my tests using this to view the internet and all of my calls came through.

I assume its been done this way to reduce download times and speed up the browsing experience but to be honest I haven't noticed any detrimental issues using Dolphin Browser HD. This is just my view but seems to work for me and again I have no affiliation with the Dolphin app or whoever created it, I just happen to have found that my phone rings while on the net when using this app. If you like try some of the others and see if you get the same results.

I did get a call from Orange after emailing the support address with Jonathan response and after running through some details and going through further tests with Jeanette I still had the same problem. They also confirmed that my number transfer went through ok. My Desire is the Black on Firmware 2.1 update1, Browser version Webkit 3.1 and Internet app version 7.

Hope this helps,
Rob.L

**My tests were simple, open the internet app and goto google.com while this was loading call the phone from my work land line. Missed call. Once loaded into Google.com call again without data loading i.e. noindicators of upload or download. Missed call. Repeated the above with Wifi on at home with same results. Also with Sync on and off same result. The background test I opened Internet app, input google.com and then while loading hit the home key. Again Missed call.

Repeated these again with Dolphin Browser HD installed and now working fine, all calls come through.
