I have to agree........the first time he did it a couple of years ago he was quite good, tonight shows just how much he has 'lost' in the last couple of years and the BBC only need to compare the two to get their answer......his time has come (please)

I couldnt disagree more-I thought he was on top form. Certainly nothing like the rest home character some would prefer him to be.

I also think he was brilliant tonight.

I also thought Bruce was on form last night, and I wasn't expecting him to be at all.

Although I'd be interested to find out how long it took to record!

I think he still works for Strictly - on one of the ITT backstage segments last year I'm almost certain Alan was there as a floor manager or something.

And how big the autocue was!

I thought Bruce was on form, and the programme was good if a little Bruce-centric. It's not to be taken too seriously and it is always amusing to see the contrast between Paul Merton's plain enjoymetn of the situation and Ian Hislop's slighly bemused reaction.

What is your skin color? Is it something we can put down, because people of <insert skincolor> aren't worth anything? Its no different you jerk.

So much vitriol aimed at Bruce in this thread!

It reinforces the image of bitchiness in the dancing community, particularly the amateur scene, and lower-level pro dancing i.e the ones who have never quite "made it".

Bruce will make his decision, one way or the other, in plenty of time for the new series. There's no need to rush. It is not as if any new presenter would have to go into an arduous, long-term training regime to present the show.

How does saying that we (those of us who do think this) think Bruce is no longer funny and thus the show would be better with a new presenter reinforce any image of bitchiness? It's a perfectly legitimate opinion which any of us are entitled to hold - and I think it's an ignorant assumption to say everyone here is a dancer or in any way a reflection of the dancing community! Many of us do dance, but many of us are nowhere near pro or even competitive amateur standard and thus your statement makes no sense...

I am not a member of 'the dancing community' as you put it.....I am TV viewer and fan of Strictly.....I have nothing against Bruce I have watched many shows he has done over the years but he is now well past his best and its time to move on and retire gracefully, infact personally I hope he makes the decision to go himself rather than put the BBC in the position of having to 'sack' him which if he carries on for much longer they most definately will.

I'm someone who has been quite polite about Bruce and so don't have any reason to take offence at the above post. But I have to admit to being somewhat bemused by it. I think most of the contributors on this forum (95% at a guess) would not fall into the categories described above.

Paul Merton and his guest saved the day with their Argentinian cum Hip Hop tango - but I have never seen Ian Hislop look so dazed and lost for words - and the show is prerecorded!!!!

Now THAT was funny!! Brucie also just looked bemused when Paul & Ross Noble started dancing!

Bruce was just on the phone on GMTV talking about his lack of knighthood. They asked him are you doing the new series as it wouldn't be the same without him, he replied he is still to have a couple of meetings with the bosses as there have been quite a few changes.

Oh, I'd imagine it means that Bruce read about the changes in the media the same as the rest of us ... and that includes the relegated pro's.

If they didn't consult him, that could be a sign they want shut of him, perhaps?

The reactions suggest my previous post hit the nail on the head.

Bruce is an absolute instituion and there are not many current stars at the BBC who will be hosting prime time shows when they reach 82..... so fair play to him, he is absolutely wonderful, and has had a marvellous career for so many decades.

HOWEVER...... I do feel its time for him to step down from Strictly. No disrespect at all...........but the hard reality has to be considered.......... it would throw the show into chaos if he suddenly passed away a few weeks before it... or a week or so into it !!! There are enough hassles with producing a show like this without having to consider THAT as a spanner in the works.

Just give it to Graham....... who would actually be wonderful and let Brucie bow out with pride of a job well done for so many years.

TBH i think it would be nice to give someone else a go. He has done well over the years but at times he grated me last year. His constant attacking of Craig's comments, but Alesha came out with a nasty comment and he didnt say anything. Generally someone else needs to have a go.
