'Vampires Of Venice' review

New review of 'Vampires Of Venice' is up now...

http://www.lastbroadcast.co.uk/tv/re...of-venice.html

It's spoiler-free (nothing that wasn't in the 'Next Time' ad anyway) with some vague ambiguous hints! Sounds like a fun episode

Very good to hear.

This series really does feel like the Doctor Who of old - in all the most positive ways.

I'm watching each episode at least twice and will probably run through the lot again when it's done.

Never felt compelled to do that before.

Hi, just spotted this preview of episode 6 (Vampires of Venice) ... some mild spoilers, but don't think it'll upset anyone too much

I'm holding you responsible if we get this headline next week.

Me too.I have watched every episode at least twice so far and months or even years had passed before I felt compelled to do this with 'New Who' before.

I'm simply lovin' it so far and think it's fantastic that this series has managed to re-ignite us fans imagination into theorising over any slight possibility and think that even if it all pans out to be a less complicated conclusion come episode 13 then we'll have enjoyed the speculation, theories and discussion that we've all come up with as it certainly makes me feel more 'connected' to the show and I haven't felt that for a while.

Well done Moff and the team and I'm really looking forward to this episode as could be a fun one!

I think with all the storylines developing within the first 5 episodes, this is the sort of episode we need. Although not detached at all from the series as a whole, it'll be good to have a bit of a "fun" episode to put in almost as a bit of a break from the intensity of River Song, 26.06.10, Pandorica references etc.

Or, SM might just give us a total shock.

It sounds from this that it might not be that great ... which is annoying.

Yeah, I'm enjoying it so far. I agree with Nelix that its nice to have a 'fun' episode mid-way (just like Unicorn and The Wasp). It gives us a breather before the heavy stuff arrives!

Far too much use of the [revamped] sonic screwdriver. Tennant used to over use it but Smith whips it out at every conceivable opportunity!

Seems that reviewer isn't a fan of Rory. I know he has come across as a bit "wet" but I still like the character. Plus he was already investigating Prison Zero so he's not useless. I hope he gets his chance to shine.

I agree with you, anyhow, there was a positive review about it somewhere else, so I'm going with that one. I do love Matt's deadpan deliveries though.

Spoiler

VERDICT: 8/10
Laugh-out-loud funny, creepy, atmospheric and thoroughly entertaining, Vampires of Venice is one of the best episodes of the season so far.

Funny, the beehivecity review seems to expect it to be like the previous two episodes - they seem to dislike it for being lighthearted, not telling us how it works as a lighthearted episode.

Cannot wait for this episode! Looks really scary! Toby Whithouse writes for Being Human as well so he has experience for writing Vampire stories.

Love the Doctor's reply to Rory that they mention in that review

Spoiler
"No, I kissed her mouth!"

I hope the Doctor actually likes and respects Rory fairly quickly though - I hated Christopher Ecclestone's Doctor's attitude to Mickey, probably the most unlikeable side of that Doctor.

Plus Rose's and Tennants Doctor behavior towards Mickey in The Rise of the Cybermen.

To be fair that story did have an happy ending.
