The appeal of wearing ties?
Can anyone please explain this to me?
Why is the tie so popular in work places? Why do a lot of jobs require wearing a tie or suit? Are there any benefits to wearing a tie? I've never been able to bring myself to wear one properly. It would be helpful to know this because of the area of work that I'm interested in. |

It's a male phallus that points directly at the genitals. It's a symbol of male domination.

It's mainly just convention really; in certain professions and work situations the wearing of a tie is kind of expected. Back in the day, it was part of the code of conduct for men to have to wear ties all the time where I worked. I remember when the company decided to allow business casual I was the first one to ditch the tie, as I hated them.
A lot less men wear ties than say 20 years ago though, but I suspect there are a fair few who feel a bit more "important" wearing one and thus do so willingly. |

There is no appeal whatsoever in wearing a tie for me and I'm glad I no longer have to.

Thankfully I don't have to do the noose thing unless I have to a client, which is mercifully rare these days.

If you go back far enough, it was the code of conduct for all men, everywhere. They're just decorative now, but once upon a time you had to wear one - to tie your shirt collar up.

I've said it before in a similar thread, but I think it is sexist that men have to wear ties and women can get away without having to wear them.

I actually enjoy wearing a tie. I haven't had to wear one for a few months that I can think of, but it completes your look. If I'm wearing it for a function with alcohol, the chances are I'll take it off and have an open shirt by the end of the night, but that's a comfort thing.

I hate wearing ties. They are so constrictive and are a part of the capitalist uniform.

I had no idea there was a uniform, what does the rest of it consist of?

Especially as my parent brought cheap shirts with collars that were too tight. And this was in the 70s when collars were wide. |
