Aldi Digital Camera ??
hey guys just got the new Aldi newsletter telling me about a digital camera, these are the specs
Digital Camera £179.99 5.25 Mega Pixel digital camera, lightweight aluminium body, 4x digital zoom, 3x optical zoom, 1.5" LCD screen, 128MB memory card included, movie mode with sound, 2 long life Lithium ion batteries, autofocus, 9 photographic modes, self timer, 3 mode flash, video output with TV connection, USB output with PC connection. Includes pouch, bag with belt loop, USB cable, video/TV cable, Driver software, picture editing software, Combination AC Adaptor/Charger. 128MBcard will hold up to 54 pictures in maximum resolution and up to 1536 pictures in minimum resolution. picure is here http://www.aldi-stores.co.uk/special...1/images/1.jpg if its a CCD lense should i get this ?? i will also be checking if its interpolated or a CMOS (i think) lense i am told CCD is the best and that interpolated is to be stayed away from ?? well unless its a 4 mega pixel CCD lense and interpolated upto 5.25meg ![]() any help would be greatful thankyou MDX |

A CCD is the internal sensor used by the majority of digicams to capture the image, it is totally separate to the camera lens. CMOS is an alternative censor to CCD. It's biggest advantage is it uses less power than a CCD sensor but it is more expensive.
Interpolation is a software based process of enlarging an image by adding extra pixels through complex mathematical calculations. So instead of just blowing an image up it also adds generates extra details to the image. BTW the camera looks very well specified for the price but can't determine the make. Suggest you should check out what lens is fitted to it. |

I use a 3.1 megapixel camera for commercial brochures as well as internet work and the results are first class.
So 5 millon plus pixels should be superb. Sounds a good deal to me... |

Dan's view that it is a rebadged Tosh looks right. It bears a strong resmblance to the Toshiba PDR5300 which is reviewed here http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_...s/pdr5300.html . The review does express some concerns re colour balance. |

so a CMOS would be better ??
also isnt this one in aldi like a little upgrade on the normal Tosh ?? as the one aldi will be selling is 5.25 and the Tosh is 5.0. |

No, technically CMOS is inferior to CCD due to it having an area of each pixel that is not sensitive to light. CMOS can be very expensive, however they can be very cheap too, hence they are often in budget cameras. So to have a CCD sensor in a budget camera is good.
CMOS does have two advantages over CCDs; they are cheaper to produce and have slightly less strain on the batteries. To have a true 5.25 Megapixel CCD sensor is indeed bloody good. Gdb
