I think thats because of the music that has been attached to it, if different music was played it might illicit a different reaction. The pudding type action the cat is doing is very similar to what a cat does when it is trying to make something comfortable to lie down on.

The music is what gives you that heart wrenching feeling

Thats so heartbreaking seeing the poor male cat try and bring the other cat back to life. The look on his face, Oh gawd its set my off crying now.
