Hi

For the last few months or so I've been getting wrong number calls most days from various people asking for a company name. I have found out that they are ringing me as they have two of the numbers the wrong way round e.g. 123 4567 (mine) 132 4567 (the company number).

Just yesterday I had six calls and the day before I had three. It's really starting to cheese me off now and am tempted to change the answering machine to say 'if you are calling ??? you have got the wrong number' (people who have rang have also left messages on my answering machine asking me to call them back!).

Will BT change my number is I call them about it?

Many thanks.

Part of life. I sometimes get calls for the Building Centre on Park Farm but not as often as I used to.

Before that my number got confused with a shoe shop.

Before that my number got confused with a florists.

It is part of having phone line, your number will be similar.

I get wrong calls all the time from england from people looking for a GP clinic in Yorkshire and I live in Ireland! I don't know how people are mistaking the number because the area code is completely different. I won't change my number though because I've had it for years, i'm wondering if it has anything to with the fact i'm with talktalk

On a side note, will BT charge you for a number change if it's for no particular reason ? - if yes, how much will it be ?

Cheers.

Number changes are free of charge, just call 150, can be done over the phone.

You could always get your self a truecall unit that will intercept your calls.

If you get a high-volume of 'wrong number' calls, they might change your number for free. Maybe some nice BT staff here at the D.S will do it for you.

Thank you guys for responding, I had another wrong number today again asking for the same company. I'm going to give BT a ring and see if they will change my number as I really am fed up about it now. If they won't do anything about it then I'm going to buy that nuisance call blocker that speckledhen quoted and hopefully that will help.

Thanks again.

You could try calling the company and asking them if they've messed up and given the wrong number on their stationery or in an advert.

We kept getting calls for the person who had the number before us so BT changed the number. Then we kept getting calls for the person who had this number before us.

I didn't bother changing it. I just started telling people they were dead. Except for the teacher who rang to tell me my daughter was ill and needed picking up. That was scary as it was 3 years before she was born!
