MP3 on DVD
HI
Is it possible to get a (non PC based) DVD player that plays MP3 tracks written to a DVD +/- R/ R/W disk ? I have a Pioneer 444 which plays MP3 on CD/R fine but doesn't recognise MP3 on DVD - why not? TTFN Westie |

Most DVD players assume that when you insert a dvd disk it is going to be a dvd-video (or in some cases dvd-audio) disk.

TTFN Westie It's the only reason I can think of, as I've been waiting for a dvd mp3 player since mp3s and recordable dvd's have come out. I assume you can use a pc with dvd writter and mp3 software player to play them?? Would love to have one dvd with loads of songs on. How much would people pay for a dvd with say over a 1000 songs on?? I would have thought a 20 album dvd would need to cost over £200 to be worth it for the record company, but if it got damaged, lost or stolen thats a lot of money.

My Yamada DVX6100 plays DVD-Rs with MP3s just fine
They're great for storing several large audio books that would otherwise have to span several CD-Rs.

Oooer! All these questions at such an early hour of the morning
![]() The Yamada 6100 will play just about any format under the sun (DivX, XviD, AVI, MPEG, etc, etc). It will only play MP3s and not Ogg Vorbis files (although the later model, the 6600 is said to) but it can handle most bitrates, and I've encountered no problems with controlled bitrates ranging from 64kbps to 224kps - not sure about VBR because I don't use them as a rule. Root Directory structure is awkward as you have to scroll through the on-screen menu to get to the folder you want (annoying if you have hundreds of files in the root and the folder begins with the letter 'Z') although there is a 'page down' function which helps. You also have to stop playing music to change between directories too. You can get further information about the player by giving it a quick search in google. I think it's been discontinued, but you may find a place with some stock left. Failing that you could try the Yamada DVX6600 or Medion MD40814 which are both said to have MP3DVD playback, although I couldn't personally confirm this... |

Another option wouldl be to get a get a network streamer/media point and keep all your mp'3s on computer - £70 for a 160gb HD (this size has the best ratio cost:mb @ moment)
thats room for over 45000 tracks - if you say 3 mins a track thats erm about 100 days of no-stop music!!! |

TTFN Westie ie. you have all your mp3's on there, with a title still or such like as the video component, with the mp3 as the audio component. You will need beesweet (freeware) or such to process all your mp3s to the dvd-video, audio standards - 48kHz compared to 44.1kHz for almost all mp3's. You can make a decent job of it if you put the time in (album covers for stills etc.) Here is a link to a guide which runs through the basics - this guy is ripping audio from cd's, but it is the same principle. http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?link=476 Gordon. |

I have a KiSS 508, plays MP3s off DVDs no problem. Also can stream them off your PC, its internal hard drive, or mp3 net radio stations. It also handles divx, svcd, vcd etc, really is a nice all round machine (as long as you get the latest firmware
)

Does the Yamada DVD Recorder play such a wide range of formats (eg DivX)?
