aw thats fantastic news. I hope she carries on getting stronger and stronger. I have never heard of a cat with a shunt so she really is unique and what a fighter.

From "can't stop crying" on Saturday, I've gone to "can't stop smiling" today. She's my little miracle. Just taken 6 steps!!
I know I should be more realistic...but I just want to enjoy every moment with Nessa. We're not out of the woods and the shunt is seriously "life limiting"

very sorry to hear you stuffed an attack. howwever dont expect the police to do a thing, years ago infront of me when i was younger but little jack russell was attcked at the next by a german shepard who had slipped a muzzle, we rushed him to the vets and saved him. the police didnt care and i live in a normal area, so its not like they had much else to do. Quote:
What if it was a baby outside lying on a rug in the sun while mum popped into the kitchen for a bottle or something? Would you take the risk? The owner should be prosecuted and he should foot all the vets bills.
I am sick to death of people who let their dogs run free. . most dogs are fine off the lead and i am not sure of your angle but cats are often allowed to run free and cause all kinds of problems. |

That dog should be dead now - end of story.
![]() What is people's obsession with keeping known powerful/dangerous dogs?

![]() What is people's obsession with keeping known powerful/dangerous dogs? ![]() if the dog killed a rat, should he be put down? i am sure many cats have killed birds, yet there dont seem to be many people demanding that the cat gets put down. |

So pleased Nessa is back at home with you Sal.
![]() When my young cat was hit by a car (broken pelvis, hip and knee) I found the most comfortable thing for him was to put him on his bed (it was a beanbag but any thick comfy bed would do) and transport him around on that - so he would lie on my lap on the beanbag, then when I got up I could take him into whatever room I was in, including transport him upstairs, without hurting him when he was moved. Fingers crossed she continues to improve. |

About a year ago we had a staff run onto our driveway when he saw our cat and chase him into our house trying to attack him, the owner did absolutely nothing. It's a good job our back door was open as I was going to work otherwise god knows what would have happened.
The owner just stood on the other side of our road shouting after his dog who totally ignored him. I've seen him go after people's dogs on leads as well, yet he still lets him run around the streets off a lead when he can't control him. I don't mind dogs, I just wish some owners would think twice about letting them off their leads when they can't control them. |

So glad to hear the good news. The great thing about young animals (including the human ones) is that they can bounce back amazingly well and she seems to be doing that.
If it was me, once the red mist had recessed, I'd be wanting him to learn how to control his dog, so I'd be wanting them to go to dog training - and probably be wanting all the family to go as it's so easy for one family member to undermine another's good work. And I think I'd want this dog to always be on a lead, and possibly be muzzled as well when out in public. Some humilitation for it's owner would be good as well. I wonder if one of your local newspapers can run a suitable story? Something along the lines of 'wonder kitten survives dog attack' with a really cute photo of Nessa, plus information on how important it is that *all* dogs are properly trained and well-controlled. This bad for the dog as well - a well-socialised, well-controlled dog is a happy dog. Dogs like to know their place and if we make it clear what that is (below us, the cats and any other family pets) that makes them happy. I guess some males get rather uppity, if so a quick snip might be approriate for them as well. If he asked me if I wanted the dog put down I hope I'd have the presence of mind to point out the dog isn't at fault, he is. Again, best wishes for a good outcome for Nessa, including her shunt. |

Could you explain why? Not the usual hysterical "Well, next time it will be a child, then you'll all be sorry, yada, yada" type of explanation, but a rational, well-thought out one.
A non-muzzled dog has been allowed to enter someone's property and attack a pet of that household. That mutt could have easily attacked a pet rabbit, gunea pig or yes, even a child. If the owner cannot be bothered to control his dog, then that dog should be put down. It has attacked before, what's saying it won't do it again. |

Aww SuperSal1, I just wanted to say I hope little baby gets better soon, and I hope her health problems will be sorted to a good degree. What a poor little mite. But how lucky she has such a wonderful owner. Hug you both ^___^

Nessa update
Well, my lovely friends...
Nessa is sitting on my lap. She still can't walk very well, one leg seems worse than the other and she's very unsure. She trembles all the time. She's also got a horrible gash on her chest/tummy... However, she can use her litter tray (if I lift her on to it) and she's eating her food. She's happy to eat her medicine if I mix it with the jelly from wet food. But best still...she started to purr this afternoon..and she even resumed her amazing snogging! Running up my chest and thrusting her head into my face. I was almost crying with joy!! Miracles can happen! |

Sal, that's fantastic news! I have a kitty snogger as well, my little Fudge. Never had a cat that does that and it takes so getting used to ~ but I love it!! Anyway, something that may give you even more hope. About 35 or so years ago, we had a kitten from my granddads foundry and he was attacked at 8 weeks old by the dog next door and broke his leg. He had an operation on his broken leg and had to have a pin in it, he recovered fine, he had a limp and his front paw turned out but he never let it bother him at all, he went out and all the neighbours knew him. He also used to love to lie on the TV's we had back then and when the snooker was on, try to bat the snooker balls with his gammy leg! He lived to a good age as well. Fingers crossed for your little Nessa and hope the story ends as well for her as it did for our Petey. |

And the police, although grateful for the report, said it's not a 'crime' for your dog to trespass in somebody else's garden or attack your cat. But they told us to tell the dog warden (and we also told our neighbourhood watch)
I'm so sick of owners not being able to control or discipline their dogs properly. About a year ago I was walking down the road and some woman's dog completely went for my leg as I walked past. It didn't do any harm because I flinched back so quickly but I did feel its teeth nip my leg. I hadn't actually approached the dog or done anything to provoke it, I had merely been walking past. The owner pulled the thing away but didn't tell it off at all! I also saw some idiot on a bike the other day who had his dog on a lead and he had completely lost control and was struggling to get the dog back from the middle of the road whilst the dog was still on the lead. Cars were having to manoeuvre round it and all sorts. He then proceeded to give his dog a walk whilst riding his bike. It really really really gets my goat. Sorry to rant on though, I'm glad your cat's getting better. |
