i mean, the bbc aired children of earth ages ago, yet we still have not got official conformation of a fourth series

Oh yes, we have not even had a sniff about if and when TW is coming back, I need my fix!

It only aired last July. I really think society has become to impatient in all aspects, including the airing of the next series of a programme.

I don't think we are impatient at all. It's nearly a year since it aired, it would be nice to know whether it's coming back or not.

It should be pretty soon. They have only just decided not to do the American Series, so they will be able to sort out Proper Torchwood now.

Hey I'm also a fan of Torchwood, in particular COE as it echoed the 50's Quatermass series and Classic DW in terms of it being a five part story.

But I can wait a little longer to find out if it's coming back or not, a little suspense is sometimes good.

Atleast with no confirmation, we can at least say that it hasn't yet been cancelled. At least there is hope for it yet, even if the window is getting a bit thin

It's just surely it can't take this long? It was really popular, CoE got great ratings, it's not looking good though sadly.

Its taking this long because they were in talks over an American Torchwood, but now they have decided not to, they will be able to confirm British Torchwood.

The wait probably won't be any longer than the wait for the next series of Primeval will be since the last series, which IMO isn't anywhere near long enough (forever would be good!)

I'm also a fan of Primeval, indeed it will be a gap of two years between series airing. However I think the people on here are not so much concerned when the next TW will air, rather they are concerned if there will be a new series.

With all due respect... maybe it should stay off air, at least for the time being. No, don't get me wrong, I like Torchwood and think it's had some great moments but that's kinda the problem. CoE was SO good and so dark it'd be almost impossible to follow it up. They've got no regular cast members other than Gwen and Jack left, there's no hub, the question of how Jack can still lead given what he did.... it just feels like a very natural point to take a good long break if not leave it be.

Basically, I wouldn't mind seeing it back but if they do it it's got to aim to top CoE and I just don't quite see how you do that so soon after the event.

If they did bring back torchwood, they could use an Episode along the lines of 'Fragments'. Don't introduce the new team, then blow them all up. Introduce them like that.

Well, Fox passed on it. BBC Worldwide did confirm though, that they were looking for other networks to develop it with. With RTD and the team all based out in LA, it seems like they're angling for this American remake / continuation / whatever and won't go for more original Torchwood until they find out for sure whether its a go.

I think they're right to try and get a U.S.-based Torchwood off the ground. Onwards and upwards! And I'm glad Fox didn't take it because they're notorious for screwing shows over.

I loved Torchwood, even the poorer episodes, but I am beging to suspect that it will not be returning anytime in the near future, if at all.

Well JB returned last week in time to vote in the Vale of Glamogan. He doesn't have anything else for a little time except a concert version of Les Mis and Tonight's the Night and he's filmed around that before.

articles on filmshaft seem to indicate that torchwood will be back... late 2010 or early 2011

Considering the ratings winner that Children of Earth was, I find it absolutely amazing that we've had no announcement of a new series.
Now that the BBC-US co-production has been scrapped I would expect to hear something soon.

That, or they have gone out on a high and that's it for Torchwood. Frankly the BBC haven't got a good track record for good commercial decisions!

If it was to return to our screens late this year or even early next - then the Preproduction would be in full swing now.

There would be scripts written and re-written, actors cast, sets built or designed, locations scouted, budgets allocated, studios booked, post production budgeted and tendered for, edit rooms booked, dubb sorted, musicians booked, online allocated.

There would at least be a Producer and Executives, a chief writer, a production office, an accountant or two. The principle actors would have been contracted, the directors sorted and read throughs booked.

It's May now - to hit an Autumn 2010 TX, they'd be filming now. To hit Winter 2010, they'd start filming in July at the latest or earlier if possible.

These things don't just happen - especially if they are to be any good.

As far as I have heard, none of the above is happening at present. If it is to return, I guess next year is the earliest it could happen from a standing start.

I'm not saying I don't want it back, I do, I just don't think it's on the 2010 schedule.

Sorry...

Torchwood should stay British IMO. Not a fan of all the old team out in LA trying to sell it to Americans.

I'm still far from convinced that it should come back. COE wrapped up the story, it seems to me that any fourth series would be an anticlimax.

this of course COULD be the problem. COE was just so *&^^ing brill that viewers might find S4 to be 'not as good'. if they're taking their time to make sure it's as good then that's find with me.
