Any ideas how to train a dog to push a football?

I want to be able to get my dog to run along with a football pushing it on with his head, as I would like a change from fetch! I've seen other dogs doing it but I don't know if it's possible to train or if those dogs just did it. Mine tried to bite it and he's popped one of the cheap plastic ones. I got a better one today and he's not popped it yet but it has a few teeth marks in already. Any ideas?

A ball too big to get in his mouth, too hard to get his teeth into ! Pets at home used to sell a heavy plastic ball the size of a football. That was naturally pushed a long by our dogs as they couldn't pick it up. Not sure if they still do them though I have not looked for a while.

Try rolling it and reward dog with a treat, then see if he'll move it for a reward.
Might take some patience but doesn't seem that hard.
Mind you it depends on what type of dog you have - some dogs are just dumb.

He can't get the football in his mouth really, he just grips it where the stitches are!

He's not dumb , he normally learns things quickly, but he is part lab so he likes to hold things in his mouth. I think I might be on to a loser!

Yes you may well be Mollie has retriever in her and cannot understand playing football, our late corgi cross Katie was better than a professional footballer ! And our late jack russell cross Ben was a master too.
