Until last night ALW had always eliminated the girl with the lowest public vote. I don't see the problem with him saving Lauren over Jenny because it was clear who was the better all-round performer.

EDIT: And the public chose to keep Emilie in despite a couple of atrocious performances, so you can't have it both ways!

Apart from last night when he saved Lauren he has eliminated everyone with the lowest votes so if Andrew wasn't involved they would have gone anyway

I don't believe ALW saving Lauren is actually good for Lauren. Now she is in this position of getting to where she is but without strong public backing. Clearly she is very talented but the public seem to be saying they'd prefer others over her for the role of Dorothy.

In the end the public did vote Emily off....

Sorry, but I still don't understand your point. As others have said, this competition is wide open and different contestants have appeared in the sing-off. How do you give the public what they want when the public don't know what they want?

I think Lauren might well go next week (based more on public perception of her 'arrogance'/over-confidence than on her actual talent) but a lot depends on song choices on the night. I think Sophie has put herself back in the frame after last night.

If you keep throwing them back one is sure to put in one good performance in the end.:yawn: or perhaps they might eventually appeal dressed the right way and with the right song.:yawn:

You're missing the point though. The most popular girls in that week automatically do go through. Its not up to ALW to choose the slightly more popular girl over the least popular one in the sing off, but to choose which one is more talented or capable of playing the part out of those in the sing-off. That is the point of the sing-off, even if it does seem like engineering. ALW gets to choose the best girl, not the most popular one.

I agree with Becker. It is you who are missing the point. ALW does not necessarily choose the more talented girl it may for example be one who can give him the best strategic advantage eg surround his favourite with fall guys who he knows the public would never vote in.

Imagine ALW didn't get to pick who goes home because of his bias etc. and it was all public votes.

The only elimination where something different would have happened was Jenny's, so it's not like he is consistently choosing someone with the lowest votes anyway

If you go by that reasoning then Andrew should only ever save the one with more votes ....

The format is the public decide the bottom two and then ALW can save one of them ... he has to have the freedom to make his choice based on a number of factors as well as the publics opinion, otherwise there is no point in giving him the choice, they might just as well end the show after the public vote!

The OP and several others seem to be suggesting that ALW picks the more popular girl out of the ones in the sing-off, which rather defeats the object of a sing off.

I don't like Lauren much, but she is more talented than Jenny, so ALW made the right choice in my opinion last night.

All of the judges are biased though, its not just ALW.

really?! last night she was asked something along the lines of "what are you looking for in a dorothy?" and her answer was "vote for lauren"

I think the whole sing off thing is stupid anyway, on OTR and X Factor. The public voted, there was one person who was least popular they should go. Oh hang on Gordon Brown is still in No.10

The sing-off is a farce. It's very clear that ALW's decision is not based on who does best in the sing-off, but is firmly in his mind long before the two girls attempt to persuade him in song that they should be Dorothy. It's always very obvious long before they sing who ALW will save.
