Walking into the tree was good but for me when he changed his clothes and also when we saw the new steampunk tardis. 2nd episode really confirmed it. More Doctory and eccentric than DT ever was.

Yeah he had me convinced very early in The Eleventh Hour, though little touches like him jumping over the bench in The Beast Below and then basically every single thing he did in episodes 4-6 cemented his excellence. He IS the Doctor.

Well, he had me at "hello", in the Eleventh Hour!

I thought he was brilliant from the get-go tbh. I know for some there's been a bit of a Tennant hangover, but he strolled into it for me.

From the beginning - he is a great Doctor.

The quote that goes something like "if there's one thing you must know about me... it is that I am definitely a mad man with a box".

His body language there just told me how good he'd be. He hasn't disappointed. A brilliant blend of Nu and Old Who.

By the end of the first episode I loved him as the Dr. Can't remember what specific point in the episode but definetly by the end I thought of him as The Dr.

The first moment I was sure about him as the doctor was when he stepped out of those images of previous doctors at the end of the first episode, it wasn't anything particular he said but was the first point where he was definitely past the regeneration phase.

I was convinced from the scene in the first episode with young Amy and all the food. Played it exactly like I would have expected him to.

I started watching TEH convinced I was going to be disappointed because no-one could replace the gorgeous DT.

But Matt Smith won me over against my will and I think he's brilliant. Much more complex and multi-dimensional than DT.

The bit at the end of the Eleventh hour with the montage of Doctors, and him scaring off the aliens after scanning his history.

I second this, he was impressing me as it was but that scene for me did it. From then on I haven't seen Matt Smith, I've seen 'The Doctor'.

Scene and interaction with young Amy. Loved DT and CE in New Who (and a lot of other doctors in Classic Who), but at the moment Matt is "The Doctor" in every sense.

This comes from someone who was cursing SM for casting such a young actor.

For me, like someone said it was from Matt's first interview. He just looked the part somehow despite his age he seemed to have a kind of 'wisdom' in his face.

Then when they started bringing out the trailers watching him stride across that courtyard so purposefully I really wanted to see what he was capable of (that was actually the scene in VoV after his first run in with the fish lady and it looked just as good in context)

Think the bits that got me in TEH and proved to me that I had been right to believe he would be great started with 'I don't know yet, I'm still cooking', loved the speech over fish custard when he said 'that must be a really scary crack in your wall': How he went all 'doctory' with 'two points in space and time that should never have touched'
I loved his 'She seems nice your mum' remark about the apple.
In the hospital when Rory says 'he's done it' and he says no and calls the aliens back then says 'Now I've done it' I just loved that line and his delivery of it, then the whole getting clothes scene and up to 'Hello.........I'm the Doctor............basically............run'.

I also loved his expression when he went into the new TARDIS, from that commanding 'I am the Doctor' to the wide eyed wonderment of a child as he looked at what we then couldn't see and said 'oh you sexy thing'

I also loved him 'skipping' (don't know what else to call it) up to the console after he had brought Amy into the TARDIS, like he was still so full of wonderment. then the very touching 'thanks dear' to the TARDIS when he got his new screwdriver.

So, after all that one defining moment? I don't know, it was almost like he was the doctor before I'd seen him and he's just been comfirming it ever since

Each Doctor is the Doctor for me, no matter which actor plays him.

Technically Matt Smith was my first doctor as I had only watched the first few episodes of CE series and the odd episode of DT but I was like "oooohhhhh" when he walked through the picture of DT and said "hello, I'm the doctor" I thought "I'm gonna like him"

Edit : Reading that back I sound like a 12 year old with a crush lmao

I love Matt Smith, but I absolutely agree (he was the doctor from the first scene). As someone who didn't like Peter Davison, I'm just watching the "Caves of Andrazani" and he is amazing! I'm so lucky, every doctor is really the doctor for me.

It took me a few weeks to get there but I like Matt Smith. My only problem is that in some stories he's been the only good thing it. Last night's episode he was funny, he had a lot of good lines but the rest of the story didn't work round him at all.

It just seems he has so much potential but he's been let down by some of the scripts. Last weeks' episode, everything gelled together perfectly and I thought this series was on the up, but last night brought me crashing back down again. It's so frustrating that we have an excellent Doctor, but some weeks we don't have the story to match!

Couldn't agree more! And that's the whole POINT of Doctor Who. You're supposed to love each one (for different reasons).

Pertwee was my first Doctor and it actually took me quite a long time to warm up to Tom Baker. But once I did, I understood that change is good in the world of Who.

That said... I hope we have Matt Smith for a long, long time!

In the TEH he was surprisingly close to becoming my favourite Doctor but by TBB he had quickly fell, he has yet to get anywhere near his performance in TEH. But I agree with the others that the minute he became the Doctor for me was the 'That must be a hell of a scary crack in your wall' although I excepted him as the Doctopr the minute he climbed out of the Tardis. Even if he ever get's close to being my favouite again I doubt he will ever be 'my' Doctor that's David Tennant.

Thats pretty much how i feel too. I said in another thread thats hes everything i've always wanted the doctor to be and the best bit is that i can still love and appreciate CE and DT because i didn't know exactly what i wanted until i saw Matt.

The first moment for me was the

'That must be a hell of a scary crack in your wall' which gave me shivers. Followed by 'we have a post office - and its shut!' which made me laugh.

Basically every time he opens his mouth i love what comes out of it and combined with his delivery hes THE perfect Doctor for me.

Yeah, that's why I'm finding the episodes so frustrating. he's an excellent Doctor, but since TEH, not quite got back to that performance yet. Humour wise he came close in last night's episode. Doctor-wise it was last week. Just need the two to combine and as I said, some of the scripts are not helping!
