Sony TV - Is that an optical out I see?
Got my magic new Sony TV last night.
While setting it up I've found an optical out but there is no mention of it in the manual, that just mentions the phono outs. Question is, anyone else spotted this? Does it work? TV has the Dolby logo on it so I'm assuming it will. Just a bit nervious about plugging it in to my amp, can I hurt anything by giving it a go? Oh, TV is a Sony KD28DX200 is it helps... Ta in advance for any help. |

Are you sure it is optical out and not optical in?
If it is an out, it wouldn't do any harm in trying it. Phil |

Just looking at the specs again, are you sure it is not the smartlink connector.

Hi Phil
Nah, the Smartlink connector is through Scart No.3. I know this as my VCR is a Sony Smartlink fella [very clever it is too!] Checked the specs on Sony webbo and can't find any mention of it. Defo' an optical plug though... |

Guess it makes sense, as the Sony VTX-D800U Freeview box has an optical out. You may (up to you to try!) also find that it's a combined 3.5mm stereo jack socket and a mini toslink, like the VTX-D800U, so you can connect it to you AV system even if it doesn't have an optical in.

Ta for that Engaged...
I was thinking [sorry - hoping] it may be an optical out due to the Sony Freeview box also having one. My AV amp has a spare optical input so I'm give it a whirl later. |

If it's an optical out it will glow bright red with the cover plug out (provided of course the optical out is switched on). May be just there because the case/circuit board is standard to a few models one of which may have the option.
