I have gone right off Sheila Hancock

I used to like SH both as a pesron and as an actress. Her comments in this series have however changed my mind. She is nit picking to the nth degree. She is also dogmatic - her way or the wrong way. The final straw was her criticising Jenny for not using the humour in SITC!!!

If you are not her favourite its as if she is looking for something/anything to criticise. If you are her favourite then all faults are overlooked. She is coming across as didactic, biased and poncey.

she just wants more this, more that, i just want more ok, quite silly really.

She's probably very well qualified to be on the panel but to be honest, I have to agree. Her favourite is so clearly Danielle - with the others its 'I wanted you to pick apart the words and play with the emotions' or something like that but with Danielle its 'You weren't as good as normal but still very very very good.' I'm not a Danielle hater by any means, but it isn't even constructive at all.

I agree, she should have been more constructive with Danielle. Instead we had a bizarre comparison with CZJ.

Oh yeah that was odd... Perhaps she was inferring that Danielle should marry a much older man-maybe the Lord himself!-to further her career.

I've disliked her comments from the beginning... And I got a hard time on here for saying it, because she's a respected and experienced actress etc... Well she may be all these things, but her judging sucks! She only judges it on what SHE would have done with the song... and most of the time she thinks she could have done it better. I mean, how could Jessica possibly do more than she did with Supercalifragalisticexpialidocious!!!!

Yeah, that was a very odd thing to say. Or Lauren not giving the words "Being Alive" ehough joy!!

I don't think any of the judges are particularly good at judging this year. They prefer to throw out soundbites instead of real constructive criticism. I wish Sheila would give the girls better tips on how to approach musical theatre acting in general rather than telling them that one specific song needs more *random emotion*.

I miss the old judges, they were better at giving out advice that helped the contestants improve week on week.

The argument against a vocal coach was that they would be marking themselves but the argument against Sheila is that she just has a view of what the role is about which may be completely different than what the vocal coach has worked up for the contestant.

They really need someone who can say you can do it that way or this and if you did it that way you needed more of that. Even there though if someone has told you to do something on some phrase who is any judge to tell you you should have been doing something else?

Is that a reason to bring back the vocal coach? The contestants obviously can't explain why they did it that way or that they were doing as they were told (it would lose them votes to argue) so who should?

I agree that much off the criticism isn't of the girls, but the way they have been coached to do it. In the same way that criticising a song chice is ludicrous.

Or Jenny not being humorous enough doing Send in the Clowns - look at Hannah Waddingham and Ruthie Henshall doing it on the youtubes in the Jenny appreciation thread. Hannah used to cry on stage......
