Cool, the bedroom scene and ceiling shot were definitely filmed in Cardiff, recognise the rooms from the castle and dgem posted about it the day they were filming.

Erm, you do know that when the BBC filmed the 2006 version of Robin Hood, it was filmed in Hungary because it's a lot cheaper to do that than film it in Britain...?

I suspect that filming the episode in Croatia worked out a lot cheaper than filming it in Oxford would...

Go on tell me the figures then.

If about 6 million people watch Dr Who then I would imagine the confidential gets about an eigthh of that - about 550000 people?

Not at all.

What the programme did was highlight the ignorance of about 6 millions viewers.

I knew it wasnt in Venice having been to Venice serval times.

I have never been to Venice, so for me it was convincing.
AND refrain from calling me ignorant in any response to this.

It was a perfectly passable representation of Venice. In a lot of ways it didn't really make much use of the venice setting other than the water, frankly you could have done that story in any city with a river. The city wasn't really the star in this story.

I would have been really odd if they had gone to film in venice and given us city of death style shots of the city that had little to do with the story, nice as that would have been.

If you want that I would recomend 70's horror classic Don't Look Now.

I've been to Venice, but I accepted that it would have been difficult (and probably prohibitively expensive) to film there so I just suspended my disbelief in the normal way when you are watching Cardiff pretending to be London etc.

Yeah right. You've been to Venice in the 16th century so you know exactly how it looked back then.

Were you missing the Cornetto singers?

Do people post on here just because it's the only place they get some mild attention in their lives?

Another guess I see?!?!?

I don't have the figures (erm, thats the point?!?), but neither do I make sweeping spurious comments on which I have no evidence or knowledge!

Ok, so if you've been to Venice then you'll know that Venice, during the day and much of the evening is FULL OF TOURISTS. Now, for those who haven't been to Venice, you might think London is full of tourists. It isn't, people in London do other things, but EVERYONE in Venice is either a tourist or part of the tourist industry. Plus, closing off areas is almost impossible, because the canals only have so many bridges, so you would have to shoot in the early morning or at night. Not ideal if the plot involves bright sunlight and vampires!

And to think I defended you! This is about the third thread today where you have clearly been on a wind up mission.

The bedroom and the circular courtyard were filmed at Castel Coch.

I had 15mins in Venice, a few years back. I went for a wee in McDonalds. There was a McDonalds on every corner.

I've not seen Confidential (I don't usually watch it, but have recorded this one because I wanted to see more of the lovely location), but the writer stated in DWM that Venice was not practical for filming because it's full of Starbucks and looks nothing like 16th century Venice.

The whole point of the story, surely, was to create an atmosphere ratehr than 100% historical accuracy. This is the reason The Unquiet Dead had Swansea playing Cardiff: because there aren't enough Victorian looking bits of Cardiff that fit the needs of the story.

Vampires of Venice did the trick for me. It made me want to see Venice properly (do more than have a widdle in Mackydees), and made me look up Tigodr online. (I know I have spelled it wrong, but I spelled it right when I googled it). Croatia looks wonderful, and it has got me wondering about a holiday there.

In short: I see no problem in a couple of people getting an Easyjet to Venice in order to make a documentary. No problem at all. It will only have cost a modest amount, and will pay dividends when the docco is released on DVD and sold overseas.

Meanwhile:
Spoiler
Jo Grant is coming back!

Frankly Poppy, I fail to believe you. If you can't see the difference between medieval British architecture, referring simply to "grand old buildings", and medieval, renaissence venetian architecture, as employed in the filming of VoV in Croatia, then I don't think your claim really holds much water. Unlike Venice.

I agree. It introduced me to a fantastic European city and World Heritage Site that I hadn't even been aware of before.

And I think they re-created the mood and atmosphere of Venice very well in VoV!

You can't film anything in Venice without about 2 years lead time and a very very restricted area of canal and street to work with . If 95% of "Heroes" can be filmed in a large car park, why's everyone so worked up about Croatia?

And you can't film in Venice when there's an "alta mare" (sea level flooding the city) or a red tide (algal bloom) or the Carnival, or when any other film set or commercial is filming there.

And there is no cityscape in the UK that remotely resembles Venice, unlike the city of Trogir.

Well for me, any scene they show on Gallifrey is just obviously so not Gallifrey, having lived there hundreds of years ago, it's about time the BBC asked me what it's really like instead of using this stupid CGI.
