I'm not telling anyone to do it - I'm just pointing it out as an option.

Personally since I don't pay anything towards DS I'm prepared to put up with a bit of inconvenience while they sort things out, but I accept that other people are quite justified in feeling absolutely outraged at having to adjust the size of the view.

My bug bear is the ads that sit on top of text.”

I am surprised myself that someone thougth it was a good idea to make a tight text to challenge anyone with less then perfect vision .
Thankfully I dont have ads ,I think I blocked them, but have a huge big blank block at the top of the page now.
I do get one ad on a regular basis wich is for reducing belly fat ................... now who told them about me ??

I dont think it was aimed at you but at DS . I have adjusted the text size but its not all a happy outcome ,The way it is is too small and the increase makes it too big

I think I hear the three bears coming home !!! LOL LOL

My comment wasn't aimed at you - our posts crossed.

Sorry to take it personally when it wasn't meant to be.

I suppose the fact the forums were down this morning just made me appreciate them more!

I agree font size is small at the moment but I think the mgt have said they are looking at several issues such as phantom posts on the forums so I'm hoping there are improvements on the way. I'd have thought font size was easy to address.

It would also be relatively easy to give us some decent smileys while they're at it!

I tried Control + to increase the font size and WHOA! TOO Big!!

It also seems to vary from page to page....I got the regular thread page just about bearable, then did a search to try and find an old post, the the font was HUGE!!

I agree with whoever said that it might reduce the time I spend on here.

Maybe the teeny font is to try and weed out the middleaged Specs wearers (like me...)

I'm going to try some other parts of DS like Gen Dis and Computing to see what their comments are...

There is some sort of weird script running that i have to stop the page loading otherwise I can't post, log in, or change pages. It's annoying.

I have my browser set to have a minimum sized font of 14px so the sizing is ok, and I don't see any adverts because of the adblocker I have. I quite like purple too.... although it's very understated, just a few title bars, buttons and the user names.

Seems ok to me. I just wish they'd stop with the scripts that seem to wreck my browsing.

Well they have asked for feedback so that suggests they're up for changing things if they're pointed out.

It's odd to have forums with such a small default font size but in my experience of techies they all have minority browsers and operating systems and often don't know what it looks like on a standard set up until it's pointed out.

The default font size of the The Open University forums is 10 - it's a nightmare for people with good eyesight, let alone those with poorer vision - and yes, lots of complaints have been made about it!

The forums have been playing up for months with posts not showing and adverts obscuring what people have written so I don't think you can say they're not broke!”

This old non-techie without 20/20 vision thanks you for this very useful information!

When I got home last night and logged onto the site from there I thought that DS had changed the site back to the old font and size, but then I realised that the zoom for the browser on my laptops is set to 110%.

You can change it to this size by clicking on the little arrow and selecting custom zoom.

Just thought I'd mention it as it's not as in your face as the 125% it defaults to when you just click on it.

Are you using Internet Explorer?

If so then just to the right of the 100%, it's a tiny little drop down arrow. If you click it you get a list of numbers and at the bottom there is the option of custom.

Hope that helps, I'd do you a screenshot but I don't know how to attach it.

Ctrl + and - (or mousewheel up/down) to zoom in and out. Ctrl 0 to reset to 100%.
