I felt a bit of a cringe coming on watching Tamsin Outhwaite perform the song from Sweet Charity. I've heard great reports of the whole musical so this excerpt was a big disappointment. She's a competent dancer and an ok singer, but she didn't really act at all in that performance. I didn't think it was anywhere near as strong as some of the Dorothy's performances on the same night.

Jessica was more fun, Steph was a better actress and Lauren was more accomplished. Tamsin was just a bit limp in comparison.

What did everyone else think of the Sweet Charity performance?

Amy Diamond was better at that song too.

I don't think the vocal was that bad, but the acting was a surprise for me, I expected her to nail that.

Indeed she was. Outperformed by Amy, Claire, Emilie and Danielle who sang the very same song with more enjoyment than she did.

That was one of my favourite performances in the entire "20 to 10" show, Amy and Danielle were superb, Emilie's dancing was brilliant and Claire's acting was great too.

Tamsin's singing was fine, just not WOW. Although there did seem to be some terrible problems with the sound mixing throughout the show (first half of Charlotte's performance, for example).

I thought Tamsin did OK. She's not a recognised singer/dancer and the show does need a well known name to sell the tickets. She was not nearly as breathless as Jessica was after her Mary Poppins number.

I thought she looked very fit and the sound volume was pesumably what she would sing at normally - I imagine it sounds very different on the Theatre Royal sound system or at the small Chocolate Factory than it does in a big studio?.

You must have been watching a different show to me! I thought Tamsin was fabulous and really showed the Dorothys how it should be done. Her acting was tremendous, and she brought a kooky charm to the whole role. I should say also that I saw her in "Sweet Charity" when it was at the Menier, before it transferred to the West End, and she was fantastic in the part. She had great stage presence, did some fantastic dancing throughout, and her voice was excellent. I wasn't a fan of hers before, but I was after.

Most of them have trouble singing and moving without becoming breathless - Jenny actually managed it in the first live show but even Lauren has trouble. They needed a day out at Legally with "I sing while I skip" Aoife as their trainer...........

She had bronchitis, so I thought she did great considering.

Ah I had no idea, that makes a lot more sense now!

Talking of dancing and singing at the same time, the best achievement at that so far has to be Stephanie in Let's Get Loud? xx

Yeah I think people overlook that as dancing and singing at the same time because she really made it look effortless. I get the feeling she probably dances around and sings a lot, seemed natural to her.

I went to Sweet Charity on Saturday evening and I was really impressed by Tamzin. She really shined in her performance. It was a lot better than how it was on OTR.

One of the things to remember is that she has to act with an American acsent which she does all the way through the show. The show tiself was not designed to be a 'top singer' show with amazing vocals. To me it was more of a fun, light hearted show.

The show did drag in places but generaly I found it a very entertaining show and was pleasantly surprised at how good she performed on the night. In the show she dances with dancers and keeps up extremely well. It was both well acted and funny.

The OTR performance was filmed when the show first opened and Tamzin was ill at the time and still performed. There wasn't even an audience there when it was filmed, it was shown on a screen on the Saturday night and the audience were pasted in afterwards (I work with someone who went to the show on Saturday).

Makes sense, Tamzin was known to be ill before the press night. "The audience were pasted in afterwards" sounds as if the show is getting more Stalinesque by the minute . Half expecting to start watching the final and see 3 Danielles on stage ......

Tamsin Outhwaite was definitely outperformed by The Dorothies to such an extent that the her performance looked amateurish in the extreme. Her singing voice was had absolutely no tone - in fact, my cat can sing better than she can. I do wonder how Ms Outhwaite landed the lead in "Sweet Charity" when there is such a wealth of talent to be tapped into.

From seeing the show, I would say anyone that did that role in the show would not sound as expected. As I said, she is singing and talking with a kind of jokey American acsent which is obviously what was specified. Has any of the Dorothys had done it the way the producer/director wanted it in the show then they would not have sounded their normal selves and would have found it extra difficult. I dont think Tamzin has ever claimed that singing and dancing is her forte but seeing the show start to end you can appreciate how good and an energetic performance she actually puts in.

I remember seeing Tamsin Outhewaite in Oliver at the Palladium in 1994 -so she definitely had an early career in musical theatre

Lauren sang "Sway" perfectly well whilst dancing in a complicated routine with an ensemble of male dancers.

I kept thinking about what Sheila would have to say...a lot of bunkam no doubt.

I agree, she needed more colour in her performance.

The skipping routine in Legally Blonde is simply the most amazing thing I have ever seen performed on a West End stage! Aoife was just incredible

There was an audience when it was filmed 'cos I was there and she was appalling. She stopped three times because she kept messing up. One time she dropped the photograph.........

It was filmed the previous Saturday (1st May) in the morning, a few days before the actual opening/press night which the Dorothys attended on May 4th. There was a studio audience, invited to go along at 11am just to film that bit & her chat with Graham.

I was in the OTR audience on Saturday, and we were instructed to watch the film of her performance and provide reaction noise, so the clapping along etc was actually Saturdays audience watching the VT. If you watch closely you can see that the audience watching Tamsin isn't clapping , but you can hear loud clapping (that was us!)

I believe she has been ill last week, but I'm not sure if she was when she recorded that segment. She clearly appeared in Sweet Charity on opening night, but was off the next day (Wednesday) when I went. Tiffany Graves played Charity and was excellent.

I agree that Tamsin seemed a little lacklustre, but its a very busy number with a lot of choreography. Must be hard to do out of the context of the show. Don't forget, all the OTR routines the girls do are arranged for TV. I think she danced really well, and none of the Dorothys would have been up to that standard, even if they could have managed the vocal.

I kinda agree with everyone - Thought she had a pleasant enough voice, but I just didn't think it was strong enough for theatre - it just lacked any kind of power so thought it was a bit blah !
