Danielle and Jessica sing off

It was brilliant.

But what I wanted to say was, I loved Jessica from the first audition, then went off her for a bit, and then from "There you'll Be" onwards I loved her again... and when she was in the sing off I just knew she was going home.

I just re-watched the sing off song and it became even more apparent to me that Jessica acted it a lot better, she seemed to get the meaning of it more.. I felt like Danielle just sang it sad and despairing... whereas Jessica had the necessary twinkle of cleverness in her eye... That's the only way I can describe it.

So I really felt that she shouldn't have gone. I admit Jess was my favourite over Danielle but if she had been better than Jess I would have accepted it. But she really wasn't in my eyes.

I'm not sure whether Jess was actually better, or just interpreted it the way I thought it should be, but either way I couldn't take my eyes off her.

I keep noticing the same little things that Danielle does with "sad" songs and now I've noticed I just can't stop seeing them...

Sorry Danielle fans, this is just my opinion and I do think Danielle is hugely talented!! Its just this particular sing off has really made me sad!!

I personally have never been a fan of Jessica, and im not particularly crazy about Danielle either, but I think that whilst Jess was clearly better than Danielle in the sing off, and on the night as a whole, I think overall Danielle has been the stronger girl.

I thought they were both excellent in the sing-off, but I thought Danielle got the mood of the song a little better, and Jessica looked slightly out of place at the beginning, so I give the edge to Danielle. They were both really good, though. They played off of each other very well, and I think it was the best sing-off yet.

I agree that Jess was better, but hopefully Jess will go on to great things!

Indeed she was and she will.

I find myself in agreement with much of the opening post from RubySparkle.

I also just in my own opinion, think that Danielle is slightly overrated against the other girls, including some who have now left. When one of the judges or ALW, can't remember who now, said that Danielle had one of the best voices in the competition, I saw Sophie sort of nod in agreement. But in a way that suggested to me that the other girls had accepted that they stood no chance against Danielle if in the sing off with her.

My opinion is that Jessica outshone, and out acted Danielle in the sing off, and Jessica deserved to stay, she deserved a semi final place. We after all, if some think Danielle had the stronger voice, are always being told it is not just about the voice. ALW and the judges want it both/all ways, and keep moving the goalposts to suit their preferred outcome.

The two girls couldn't be more different in the way they express themselves.

Jessica saved her best til last but I think Danielle's more understated style suited the song better.

For me it was the best sing off this series even though my favourite Jessica was in it and a certainty to go home against Danielle.

Jessica knew she was going but still gave it her all. I loved her wry little smile and shake of the head to ALW before he gave his decision and the way her humour and personality shone through in her exit OTR. I think ALW recognises Jess's potential for 'bigger' roles than Dorothy and I wish her well.

Nothing against Danielle - she's a good all rounder and clearly ALW thinks she's right for the role.

Yes, definitely the best sing-off. I disagree with you about Jessica though, I think the way she's exploited how 'quirky' she is will not stand her in good stead. Inadvertenly she has pidgeon-holed herself. But hey this is a forum where we all have our favourites and are bound to disagree.

ALW clearly thinks Danielle is right for the role - and yes she is my favourite - but it's not his decision on the final night. Last time he and Cameron McIntosh clearly showed a huge bias for Jessie but it didn't work. Saying that I don't think there is a girl in this competition who has endeared herself to the public in general as Jodie did in IDA.

I think it depends how you take the song and they both seemed to approach it differently. Jessica took the bitter/I'm above you approach whereas Danielle was quite sad throughout the song and then had moments of anger. I though both girls did a really good job of it, considering the pressure they were under.

^I think the reason I think Danielle was slightly better is because she got the age and gravity of the song better than Jessica, IMO. It's a song for an older woman, and Danielle got the sense of maturity and how an older woman would react, vs. Jessica who looked like a lost teenager. Still, I thought they both did a great job. I just thought Danielle had a slightly better understanding of the song, so she wins it for me.

I agree with that. Jess was better on the night but Danielle is stronger overall.

"I'm only thinking of Dorothy here": Jessica was better but in his mind he'd already decided Danielle was Dorothy.

What is wrong with that?

Why can't the Jess-lovers accept it when people say that she'd be excellent for certain other stage roles, but that Danielle suits this one, more?

I am surprised people rate this sing off so high. I feel like I am watching a different show. I found this sing off one of the weakest. Perhaps it was the song, I don't know. I like Amy, Bronte and Dani singing their sing offs better, and thought Steph and Stephanie's both showed off much stronger/confident voices in their sing off as well.

These two girls... they are great (obviously) but never thought their voices were amongst the best AT ALL.

And yes, I know, it is subjective, and its all about the acting as well. Just my opinion.

I'm a huge Jess fan and I do accept that. I think he was right to save Danielle-even though I prefered Jess in the sing off- she would be much better suited to a role such as Sally Bowls (Cabaret)

I couldn't pick who was better. but it was the best sing off imo.

I also thought it was funny, becuase "Take that look of your face..." It was like they were singing it to each other..." haha.

I have to agree with many of the comments on here. By far and away the best sing off yet and no clear winner as far as I could tell. I thought both girls acted and sung the song superbly. There was never any doubt of ALW's choice what with Danielle being his fave and all, but all credit to Jessica in the face of certain defeat she really pulled it out the bag. Her version of OTR was also best of series IMO and this is coming from someone who would gave ranked her just above Emilie at the start of the competition!

Don't forget they were looking for an edgy Dorothy. Jessica appeared naturally quirky....but she also performed songs/ballads without a hint of "quirkiness". She is obviously an accomplished young actor who has shown incredible flexibility within the very diverse range of songs she was given.

I agree too. Danielle's performance was good and may have been better than the other girls in a similar sing-off scenario, but in this performance, Jessica definitely had the edge. I think ALW alluded to that, though, he got rid of Jessica on the "Danielle is more like Dorothy" grounds which I think we're all agreed is slightly weak given that we were down to the final 5 "Dorothys".

Like another poster said, Jessica saved the best until last with a wonderful sing-off and a beautiful OTR.

I totally agree with this.

Danielle gave the mature performance of an older professional, compared to Jessica who looked and behaved like a sulky teenager.

Danielle isn't my favourite in the competition, but I thought she absolutley trumped Jessica in the sing-off! Jessica seems to over act and while on occasions it has worked to her advantage and some performances call for that, I thought Danielle's interpretation of the song was more subtle and meaningful.

There's something about Jessica that makes me picture her better on children's TV or children's theatre, but she's definitely got the talent for the west end, she just needs a little more work than some of the others.

I'm slightly biased as a massive fan of Danielle, but I do think she was better than Jessica in the sing-off, and that ALW made the right decision for the part. I'm a fan of her acting so I 'got' her performance more than Jessica's.
