The Future Retro Sonic Screwdriver
No.6
11-05-2010
So, in Silence in the Library it is shown that the Doctor gives River Song his screwdriver at smoe point in his future, yet this looks like a modified version of the 10th Doctor's sonic which got destroyed in The Eleventh Hour, and nothing like the 11th Doctor's new green model, so does this mean he goes back to an older version of the device at some point in the future, and sticks other bits on it (red settings and the likes!) before giving it to River??

I'm guessing that the Doctor has all sorts of different screwdrivers somewhere safe in his TARDIS even after the crash in eleventh Hour that could easily resemble the ones that 10th doctor used so he probably gave her one of those.

Of course it could have been the 10th Doctor that gave her the Sonic Screwdriver. There appears to have been a significant time gap between The Waters of Mars and The End of Time.

That is when he could have given her the Sonic Screwdriver.

wibbly wobbly timey wimey etc

Yes he has had more than one of the same design during CE & DT’s reign.

Amy wanted the Doctor to give her one, too, but he wouldn't Anyway, I really think Moffat is overusing that screwdriver. People were thinking it's been too much during the old management, but now it's as if that screwdriver became a part of the Doctor's body, he's waving it around all the time

I think it works for Matt, as his Doctor is much more fidgety than previous versions. He needs to have a prop to play with, even though he's using it in places that they don't even need it as a plot shortcut.

Not really he could just have given her the one she left in the Library and kept his own one to be destroyed in the Eleventh Hour

It's already got all the updates on it

We'll ignore who actually updated it in the first place.

There's a marvellous bit in ATOA when he 'scans' the back of Father Octavian for no apparent reason. I don't think Matt even realises he's doing it sometimes.
