Does anyone else think all of the flak that Lauren is getting is very unfair?

She is getting slated in the Telegraph that she is not very likeable and why does the "Lord" save her when it is obvious that the public don't like her and also many people on this forum are implying that the show is engineering it to help Lauren.

I couldn't disagree more!

Lauren was at a complete disadvantage on Saturday and that is why she was in the bottom two. She was last on and many viewers turn over to watch Britains Got Talent so a lot of people missed her performance. If the show was engineering it for Lauren to win then they wouldn't have done that.

I think she is the best singer in the contest and although I do believe that others are just as strong at acting etc I think that Lauren should win. They have a year in which they can improve on peoples acting skills but its harder to learn how to become a top class singer.

I think she is most professional by far and the one that could easily step into the role and cope with the day to day pressures.

Haven't read the Telegraph article but I find her very likeable, very endearing.

The week that Ms Church (and was she drunk in charge of a panel this week? Only question I saw Graham Norton as her, she appeared to answer a completely different one, much to his surprise) the week that Ms Church dissed Lauren as 'arrogant', all she'd said in the VT was along the lines of Wow! ALW said that to ME! it sounded like young girl gush to me, not arrogance.

I agree with your comments about Lauren. She has been my favourite singer from the beginning and I remember thinking when I saw the VTs it's nice she's so likeable too. I thought she was genuinely excited by the comments from both Charlotte & ALW, which given how good she is was rather sweet.

Yeah, I feel sorry for her. This year all the girls have been sweet and likeable but the papers and producers don't seem to like it and seem to think they need to paint someone as a bad person Lauren is a nice girl and she doesn't even come across badly in the VT's imo, just as very professional.

Think she's easily the best. She's very humble too when she receives her comments from the judges even though they are usually telling her how good she is. She's so professional and really stands out for me in the group numbers - never seen her make a mistake. I reckon Lauren could step into this role tomorrow!

I do find Lauren likable, though I see why some might not, but I really don't see why they should be constantly making a big deal out of her 'arrogance' (which I don't really see). The show definitely seems to be engineering it to put Lauren at a major disadvantage (evening out the odds perhaps because she's the best singer? In my own opinion of course!) with the way that they've apparently edited the VTs. Also, she seems to be placed at the back during group performances, with the exception of the Saturday before last when they were putting her at the front of more performances & tried to make her 'seem more human' with the VT. That had disappeared by this Saturday though.

Either way, ALW saved her because he is looking for the best singer/actress to play the role, not for the one with the most popular personality. I've made this point once before elsewhere, but when going to a theatre you want to see an amazing actress playing the lead no matter what she's like off stage (unless her attitude translates into her performance... not saying that any of the final 4 have such attitudes!)!

I really like Lauren and I agree she's been edited unfairly to look arrogant. It seems like they give a girl a hard week then let her off for a few weeks and then when her guard is down they go for her again ... the arrogant thing had died down a bit so it was implied again in her VT's last week and I really don't think that she is arrogant, she actually seems really nice.
I also agree that she's incredibly professional.

I also don't really get this thing about her looking too old for the part. I think they aren't doing her any favours on the show by constantly giving her sophisticated hair do's and numbers for older women, but I'm pretty sure they can dress her down ( agewise ) as well as up ... and anyway she doesn't really look any older than Danielle or Steph ... so it's all a load of rubbish really ..

I don't think it's true Lauren is arrogant but there have been a couple of Vt's where I've wanted to jump into the TV to stop her talking because whatever she's saying is not coming over well.

As a contestant I'm not a huge fan of watching her, but I could listen to her sing the phonebook.

Also on VT this week all the girls were asked to say why they should be Dorothy? Lauren said she was the most capable and professional but each of the girls had to say something good about themselves. If I remember correctly Sophie said something about being sweet and kind and Jessica said something or other about being fun and quirky (I can't remember what the others said about themselves). So that was obviously the question - hence it seems very unfair that Lauren was singled out.

You could add that she's getting a raw deal on the show too (which frankly seems to be true for most of them although not all of them are getting it to be edged out) Lauren still hasn't been allowed to show a convincing Dorothy whilst even Steph has now been given the almost full Dorothy look. I still have no idea what she would look like if they told her how they wanted Dorothy played and dressed and styled her to fit or how warm she could be . I think her advantage is that she's the best singer and ALW is fundamentally a musician and will keep her till the end . The downside is that I think he will use her because she can outsing anyone he wants out in the types of songs he uses in the sing offs. I agree she got a bottom 2 bound song this week and that there may be a pattern thats clear if we could see the voing figures about the relationship with running order, vote and BGT start times. If he wantd Jenny out in a sing off though you can see why Lauren might well be in the bottom 2 as I wouldn't have backed anyone else to necessarily outsing her.

I think Lauren is very talented, I esp love her sing off with Jenny 'and pain is all around' - brilliant! But as a person and an actress, I havent warmed to her and I just cant describe why... Though I like her more now than at the start so maybe it just takes a while

I am a massive Lauren fan,and have found myself getting annoyed that the class act in terms of singing/acting has ever been in the bottom 2.
However,I am over that now and realise that she is probably not destined to win this competition,but do believe that it may be better for her in the long run.(still want her to win by the way!)
What i have seen myself on the vts is a confident,determined but nice young woman,but some people seem to feel that confidence equals arrogance.
If she was arrogant,i think it would be obvious with her relationship with the other girls and they all seem to get on well with Lauren.Since they know her much better than we do i expect she is perfectly nice.

She seems fine to me. I don't even get how she sounds arrogant..... She just wants to win, and knows she's good enough to play Dorothy. I don't think she's suitable for the role, but she could still do it very well.

I found her incredibly arrogant at first, and cheered when Charlotte pointed it out. She's calmed down quite a lot since then, or at least the editing has.

She can sing, but I still don't rate her much as an actress. It feels like watching somebody perform a song, rather than seeing any genuine emotion coming across. And yes, I know everyone acts when they perform, but it shouldn't feel as acted as it does.

I don't think Lauren's arrogant, she comes across just as likeable as any of the other girls. And I take all the VTs and newspaper articles with a pinch of salt. But I don't rate her performance skills - A for singing, but a D for acting, I'm afraid.

It's to her credit that she vaulted from least votes to at least 3rd from Saturday to Sunday.

She's a class act and deserves to be in the final ahead of Dead Eyes Evans

Agree totally. There's something extremely mechanical about all of her performances IMO. She's my least favourite for this reason alone.

I disagree that Lauren being on last put her at a disadvantage - if anything, going on last in these sorts of programmes is an advantage as a lot of people tend to remember the last person the most. If anyone switched over to watch Britain's got Talent when she was on, they probably weren't interested in seeing her anyway and it wouldn't have mattered where she was in the running order. That is of course if people did switch over - there's always the option of recording BGT and watching it later.

There has'nt been any acting.All we have is interpretation of a song.And Lauren has arguably done that as good as anyone.If not better.Her dancing has been proved to more than good,and as pointed out she can sing the rest of the girls under the table.
You don;t graduate from the Guildford school and not be able to act.
The fact that these points are arguable proves beyond doubt that no one has out performed her in anything.
Each week her performances have been outstanding and of an extremely high quality.
I am always aware of faullts in the other girls.That does'nt mean they are not talented or capable of being Dorothy.But the fact remains that Lauren is the finished product.
Give her any song,and she will do it justice.Give her a decent song and she will leave you amazed.
She has'nt put a foot wrong.
We still haven't seen her do anything like a down to earth happy fun loving song yet (sway is about as close as we got,and she nailed that completely).As someone has said she wears the same red/pink dress and wears her hair up,perhaps giving a false impression of being to old (what nonsense)
Expect that to change in the next few weeks when the girls have to sing more than one song.
Also consider this,Lauren will not make a mistake.She perhaps appreciates that she is not the favourite.But Danielle cannot afford another less than good performance in the eyes of the GBP.It may also be the case that ALW being a professional cannot continually fail to acknowledge Lauren's undoubted talent and professionalism.If Danielle does not come up with another performance like MI,then any sing of between her and Danielle will end up with Danielle leaving.

My belief is that this competition is Danielle's to lose rather than Laurens to win.
If Danielle gives solid performances in every song from now on,as the most popular girl she will win.However my belief is that she may not be able to do that.
In the final stages that may well be crucial.

lauren is not 'arrogant'. anyone with half a brain and an open mind can see that. a determined, confident young lady? for sure. and that is exactly what is required of someone that is putting themselves forward for the job of a leading lady in a big musical stage production such as the Wizard of Oz.

but to be perfectly blunt..even if she was arrogant as perhaps the show has tried to make her look on occasion...that still wouldn't count for anything. what we are looking for is someone who is highly talented, can act, sing, dance, hold an audience attention etc.. she does that to a very high degree, particularly in the singing department, more so than any of the other girls it has to be said if we're being honest. and that has to really be at the top of the list. of course there's a lot more to the role than just singing, which is why its a relief that she seems perfectly cable of coming good in each of those other areas as well. what she's like as a person isn't really the point. yes of course we would all like our 'stars' to be the kindest most loving people on the planet...but that's pretty unreasonable to be honest, and perhaps a little naive. i can think of many stars from the past that were highly skilled in their particular craft....geniuses you could say. but as private people they were generally quite difficult complex characters. difficult to get under the skin of and warm to.

as it happens i think lauren is highly talented AND i find her rather sweet and likeable too. i do hope others see that also and give her their support. whatever the end result though, she's got a career in musical theatre...no doubt.

I absolutely agree with the OP (and most of the posts on this thread, which makes a nice change on a thread about Lauren ). I have a feeling that even more than the other girls, Lauren approached this from the start as an extended audition and interview process rather than a reality tv show. She has been nothing but professional from the very beginning, and even her answers to Graham's questions sound very much like I suspect many of us do in job interviews: "An example of something that happened that was funny? Oh, yes, of course! My mum's been having these really weird dreams about having to sing off instead of me. Isn't that hilarious?!" She's let her mouth run away with her on occasion but honestly, can no one else relate to doing this under pressure? I ended up wittering on about French giants in my last job interview! I also can't remotely fault her for being excited by Charlotte Church and Andrew Lloyd Webber praising her voice.

I'm also frankly baffled by claims that Lauren is being favoured. She receives consistantly good comments of course, because she is consistantly good, and Charlotte clearly adores her (Charlotte being the voice judge and Lauren having the best vocal control of anyone in the competition) but in terms of auditioning for the role of Dorothy, her styling and songs have been hopeless. Most of her songs have been meant for people who are a good 5 or 10 years older than she is, and about 20years older than Dorothy! From the comment last week about her being able to sing songs none of the others could approach, I wonder if they're trying to show off her vocal ability (to the detriment of her "Dorothy" ability). Add this to the frequent reminders that she has been called arrogant/ might be arrogant/ probably isn't arrogant, really, and she's lucky to have got through the popular vote as much as she has.

Having said that, she's obviously not as unpopular as all that (she has, after all, escaped the sing-off 5 out of 7 times, I believe) and I would be very wary of drawing the conclusion that I've seen elsewhere on this forum, namely that the fact she's now been bottom two twice means that people wouldn't go see her in the theatre. Off the top of my head, both Rachel and Ben were bottom two multiple times yet ended up leading huge West End shows. After this series ends, West End audiences won't care about how sweet the leading lady is, they'll care if she can lead the show and if the show itself entertains.

Stephanie was at a disadvantage also as when she had her shock exit she was on second to last. They must have switched to BGT too then? Stephanie was the best.
