One of our cats has the sniffles and gets it now and again some times worse than others. She is a British Blue and 13 years old and the vet says it is partly because she has a flatter face than the average moggy or siamese and also she may have a polyp but we are not prepared to put her through an op. We' ve always had to be careful with the sort of cat litter we get as it makes her sneeze.

She gets bogies up her nose and we clean it out for her as she won't blow her nose herself no matter how we train her, buy her Kleenex etc. She's snuffling and snorting tonight.

We got some decongestant powder from the vet to put in her food but it has all gone now, my question is would it be ok to put Vick on her nose?

You could try wipeing her nose with salt water but get yee to a vet tomorrow for more vet approved medication.

Assuming of course you have a wierd sense of humour rather than being a complete troll.

I did spot the humour!! I was unsure though - we do get a lot of trolls in here for some reason. In my defense, it was late at night and Vics Vapour rub for a kitty nose

And I did give you a suggestion! Salt water won't do any harm and is a treatment for human in the form of a nasal spray. My Layla has no nose! She is an extreme Persian. I regularly have to wash her eyes and what passes for a nose with salt water.

But your kitty sounds worse and the vet has previously given her decongestant hence my other suggestion of getting some more medication.

sounds like you've tried bisolvon. You could try steam inhalations or a very few drops of olbas oil in the steamy water (ask vet for the technique) which might help. There's also an antibiotic which works on sinuses but it's not good for kidneys, which may be an issue as your cat's older? wish I could remember the name, but it's not baytril or marbocyl, convenia or synulox. It's a specialist one

Thanks everyone. She seems a bit better today. She is obsessed with sitting on the newspaper and that is a good sign as she is doing it today. She is currently sitting on Dave Cameron's face.



She was prescribed Synulox before. She's stopped sniffling for now, but I will see how she gets on today and try the salt water idea, hopefully this will do the trick. She never seems ill, just snuffly.
