Louise Berridge should be sacked - pure and simple. Us license payers are paying for this dirge and when you consider that Grantham is allegedly earning 250k per year for saying 'ello princess' and playing with himself online it's unacceptable. I wouldn't be surprised if the recent spate of EE stars behaving badly in real life (i.e Lynne & DEn) was part of a desperate publicity coup, concocted by BBC PR people to generate interest in this dying programme.

If you remember the early days of EE when Den serving Angie with divorce papers got 30 million viewers and compare it to 6.4 million watching paint dry, it makes you wonder... I know viewing figures for soaps have generally declined a bit over the years but EE;s problem has always been the lack of humour and pathos, which Corrie and even Emmerdale manage brilliantly. I don't care about any of the characters in EE, I think its lowest point was Shirley and her neighbour from hell, the character was of minimal importance or interest and suddely she's part of a pathetic central plotline that was unbeliveable and dull. The trouble is EE does not build up its' characters enough and is more interested in sensationalism than realism and comedy. I have stopped watching it and I know lots of other people who have as well.

Bad Girls got around 5 million while it usually attracts 7 million, Holby was also lower.”

that's because Holby and Bad Girls are rubbish too and people are sarting to realize that

However yes, the show has gone downhill, characters are dull and uninteresting (is there a point anymore to Kate, The Dulleries, Billy, Gus & his bro?) Storylines yawnsome and all very dark (Kat sleeping with Andy, Laura's death, Mark's death) and going nowhere fast. Episodes seem long drawn out affairs just to pad out 28 minutes and the writing is truly shoddy, they desperately need some new talent writing for that show.

If you all want to do something I suggest you email mal.young@bbc.co.uk or louise.berridge@bbc.co.uk and tell them what you think. directly”

I agree with you, I can't ever see the BBC getting rid of Eastenders but (as everybody) has said they really need to sort themselves out with some decent actors, characters and story lines. I was trying to think of when the last proper interesting story that didn't insult the viewers intelligence was on the programme. Trevor and the Little Mo story line while dark and not very nice was great, really gripping and well acted out. Also it didn't just happen, it had a slow build up and then really took off. Zoe finding out that Kat was her mum was good too, it did go on a bit too long with her running away etc but overall was good. The Peggy breast cancer story line I thought was bad and then was made worse when they brought Sam and her possible cancer into the equation BORING. Shirly and Gavin the neighbour from hell, pass the remote control please I'd rather watch the weather reports. Den coming back was interesting for the night his return was aired but then it was followed up by way OTT acting by Letita Dean and her quivering lip gloss..... I could go on and on and on and on...............

p.s. tks for the email for louise berridge will contact her to tell her exactly what I think of her programme

Back again. I have just sent an email to Louise of the loony story lines. It will be interesting to see if she comes back to me. If she does I'll post her reply.

Yeh like Wellard getting a cat pregnent!

Well it is Eastenders for goodness sakes, the soap that followed Dallas's lame atempt in bringing in a dead character . And a soap where murders (Martin) get maried to their victims girlfriend!

Its Jerry Springer haven. But viewers hell!

Don't hold your breath waiting. Someone on the BBC boards emailed her months ago & has still not received as much as a standard reply.

Miss Berridge is probably into her 100 consecutive day of begging Nick Berry to come back.

All this woman does is bring back old characters and create naff new ones. They need to bring on a sub because our show is going downhill, fast!

Yes indeed, still no reply from the lovely Louise. Its quite obvious that she doesn't care and that they believe that no matter what rubbish they produce people will keep watching it.
Any soap can have a dull or dry patch but this has been going on for so long now its past being ridicilous.

Perhaps someone could put me right over when the Yorke/Berridge transition took place but personally I've not been regularly hooked since approx the last appearance od Matthew Rose. It was alsothe same time Laura first appeared I think and pre-Slaters. Probably Feb 2000.

It needs a big shake up! The current 'Storylines' are rubbish.
When is Peggy coming back?

The Andy character gets on my nerves. Has he no family?
It is really poor at the moment.

IMO the last thing that the soap needs is Phil Redmond...

... One of the things that made Brookside rubbish was the everlasting storylines. Don't get me wrong, Phil Redmond WAS a good writer for Brookside but it just got 'bad' towards the end.

That's the last thing that EE needs..

People say the BBC are never going to axe EE, but wait, go back a good few years and you could say the same thing about Brookside! But that has now been axed! If EE continues to get worse and people start switching off and ratings plummet, the BBC wont keep it if its not bringing in the audience!

Brookside only went bad when Phil Redmond took a "back seat" roll in the production of Brookie to spend more time on Hollyoaks, and they got Paul Marquees in to produce Brookside. The result was pathetic storylines, which when coupled with Channel 4's mad scheduling of the show, meant it had no chance of survival. When Paul Marquess left to join Thames, Brookside (from about November 2002) wasn't that bad.

Why cant they get the guy who produced Coronation Street up until last year or maybe get one of the old producers back for a while? I notice that a lot of the best writers have left since Mal Young took charge. The only decent one at the moment seems to be Sarah Phelps.

If you agree that Louise Berridge should leave EastEnders then do so by posting that you agree and give your reasons.

If I get over 50 agreements then I'll e-mail all agreements including my own to her BBC e-mail address and to Mal Young - the Beeb's head of drama.

Personally I hope EE continues to 'enjoy' low ratings: it's no more than it deserves at the moment. I can't be bothered to watch the dross it passes off for storylines lately; Alfie/Kat/Andy was the final straw. Having read the updates, do they really think the drivel featuring Zoe/Dennis or Vicki/Spencer/Kelly will win viewers back?

Let alone Sonia & Martin's 'romantic' elopement, the Ferreira's 'gripping' mortgage problems or Den's 'mystery' woman!!? Total sh*te if you ask me!

It's not entirely because of the storylines that the ratings are so bad currently though.. Personally, even if the plots were great, I'd still be bored because I don't give a damn about most of the characters in it at the moment. I don't find any of the likeable.
