What are the lyrics to OTR? Do they sing the whole song i the crescent moon sequence? I keep warbling extracts from it, but get stuck on the words!

Yeah the girl on the moon sings the whole song.

Here's Judy Garland's version with lyrics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlH68k832Ew
It's exactly the same as what the girl sings on the mooon.

Everyone sings "Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly. Birds fly over the rainbow, why then oh why can't I?"

But the rest is sung by the girl on the moon.
It's not that long a song in all honesty.

Here they are TW

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

There is also an introduction to the song (in my sheet music anyway) which is sung by all the girls on the show.

That has nothing to do with the song MG, just some modern inferior stuff written for tv.

The lyrics for the bit the girls sing as the eliminated Dorothy hands back their shoes are

When all the world is a hopeless jumble
And the raindrops tumble to the ground
Heaven opens a magic lane
When all the clouds darken up the skyway
There's a rainbow highway to be found
Leading from your window pane
To a place behind the sun
Just step beyond the rain

I've seen a couple of people sing that at the start long before Over The Rainbow was on.

Apologies MG, according to wikipedia, with a proviso, there was indeed an introductory verse which is not used in the film

"This section does not cite any references or sources.

The verse was not used in the movie, nor was there ever any intention of using it; but it is often used in theatrical productions of The Wizard of Oz. Judy Garland herself sang the introductory verse once on the radio during the War.

The lyrics to the verse are as follows:"
“ When all the world is a hopeless jumble
And the raindrops tumble all around,
Heaven opens a magic lane
When all the clouds darken up the skyway,
There's a rainbow highway to be found
Leading from your window pane
To a place behind the sun,
Just a step beyond the rain

I thought so!! I think the intro is a good idea as the song itself is quite short, the intro sort of show cases it.

I like the whole song, including the intro, although I don't enjoy hearing certain girls in the chorus always sing "Ray-yain" on the last word before the crescent moon performance begin. You can always hear Sophie singing in this part and her voice just sounds lovely! xx
