What I mean spoilt songs is songs you do (or would) like if it were not for one peculiar part like the intro, verses or chorus etc? Anyone else got any examples?

Foo Fighters - My Hero
Intro, Verses and bridge kick ass. The Chorus is painful and totally ruins it. (I've even re-edited my own version with the chorus edited out, makes it only 2 minutes long but a great tune like that)

Charlatans - One To Another
I actually like it as an instrumental piece because it rocks but his vocal totally ruins it for me.

Idlewild - A Modern Way Of Letting Go
Almost perfect but the guitar part in the mini bridge (in-between 1st chorus and 2nd verse) totally spoils it. Remove it and just have a raw mini drum segment and it would be perfect

Faithless - Salva Mea
12" version goes on for way too long and gets boring, but the radio edit omits the 2nd rap verse (which is the best bit). So have resorted to making my own version which is the radio edit but with the 2nd verse spliced in.

Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American/Salt, Sweat Sugar
This one ends just a bit too soon; it ends with the main chorus, then again (a key change higher) and then ends. They should have done the chorus again a 3rd time and gone up yet another key higher, then ended.

Good thread! Will take me a while to sum them up, so I'll add them later.

I think JEWs Bleed American ends the best way, it leaves you wanting more so much you play it straight away after..

For me I'd say Evanescence {Call Me When You're Sober} as there's a shift half way through when in the video she's near the stairs.. Just doesn't fit :S Still great song thou..

The Killers- Bling (confession of a king)- almost painful intro where Brandon Flowers vocals seem really forced. The lyrics are also horrible but really love the melody, same goes with "for reasons unknown". In fact most of Sam Town sounds a bit contrived, maybe they were trying to appeal to the American market i don't know.

Many Libertines songs, I hate Pete Doherty's slurred vocals. shit shit shit.

Quite a few songs on Oasis- Be Here Now (album)- Really great songs at the core but to overproduced and could have been so much better. For instance All Around The World is a lovely song but IS 10 MINUTES LONG, ffs, it actually has the record for longest ever number 1.

another example below, horrible scratchy guitars sounds throughout and too long.

Arctic Monkeys- Stop the brick wailing sometimes lads.

There's something about For Reasons Unknown that I don't like and I can't quite figure out what it is. It has all good components but doesn't come together well.

The Rapture - I Need Your Love... amazing guitar solo after the first chorus but it only gets used once, they should have put it in again after the second chorus cos the song gets kind of repetitive.

Oasis - alot of overwrought outros

Arctic Monkeys - Dance Little Liar... starts off quite interesting and has a nice psychadelic riff but then turns into indie by numbers

Tinie Tempah - pass out.... great production but the lyrics are terrible

Hot Chip - I feel Better.... theres one part of the song that goes on for too long

Radiohead - Videotape.... the album version isn't great, the stripped down demo and live versions are far more superior

Be Here Now is a odd album, I do like it, it wasn't in the same league as Morning Glory or The Masterplan but it was certanly better than the later albums. BHN was proof if proof was needed the Liam does in fact think he is god.

On Mika's Grace Kelly, it's a pity when that woman goes "Getting angry doesn't solve" then pauses and concludes "anything" and sounds angry herself. Thankfully the production on his follow-up single Love Today was perfect!

Coldplay's Yellow begins with the lyric "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you". I keep wishing it went "See how they shine for you" as it would sound more creative.

That's true, I do actually like it alot, but it had the potential to be epic.
D'You Know What I Mean is one of the rare occasions where the overproduction works really nicely, great running tune.

The solo on "it's getting better man" bends my head aswell.

I think that most perfectly decent dance/electronic "instrumentals" are spoilt by adding pointless vocals. Sydney Samson Riverside is a very good recent example.

I remember when it was first out, a lot of people called Babylon Zoo's Spaceman a spoilt song.

It started off like a electronic dance song then ended up a dirgy rock track.

Personally, I loved it!

There's a verse in Rihanna's song Photographs (great track) in which the whole style/tone/sound of the song changes and will.i.am does this random rap. It's such a meaningful song up until then and that part totally ruins it.

I hope they remove that section if it's released as a single.

I have one at the moment: Alexandra Burke - all night long.
I'm a fan of the original and I like listening to it on the radio but I think Pitbull is uneccassary. It is probably fuelled by the fact that I can't stand him anyway.

One of my all-time favourite albums is 'Floodland' by The Sisters Of Mercy.

However, I wish there was a way of editing out the awful and irritating choir contributions to 'Dominion' and, especially, 'This Corrosion'.

I agree. I think Pitbull was only added because Simon is desperate for her to do well in America. Why they couldn't just release the album version, I don't know.
