Over the knee socks.

Which shops sell them, and would they stay put on a chubby girl?

Thanks! I'm not sure if those would stay above my knees, but I'll give them a try.

If you are chubby why are you wearing them?

I'd most likely have them under my trousers. I'm not too keen on wearing tights under them!

Why would you need to wear them under trousers?

I feel really cold at the moment!

The Sock Shop have some too with more choice http://www.sockshop.co.uk/by_type/sh...nee/index.html

The problem with these type of socks is they generally only come in one size.

Pop socks! Then you can look like a demented granny with them around wrinkling around your ankles.

All your basic places like M&S should sell long socks.

As for being chubby, I don't think that's a problem. If you find it is, then Evans do their own range of plus-sized socks, although I'm not sure if they've got long ones.

I love knee socks. They're so warm and comfortable. I even wear them instead of tights under cropped trousers - you can't tell the difference.

My OH wears her opaque hold ups under her trousers in very cold weather, seems to work for her.

I always find them overly tight around my legs, and I'm a size 6/8 and swear I don't have disproportionately huge legs

My wife is only size 10, and her hold ups are almost always size 'large', though depends on the make. You are buying them too small, or rather, the sizing is for slim women.

she's a size 6/8 surely she'd be deemed as slim!!

You'd have thought so, yes! Nonetheless, OH is 'large' according to M&S, Charnos and Levante, and only a 10. Perhaps only slim ladies are intended to wear hold ups?

Does that not also depend on height though?

Blimey, how slim do they want, paper-thin?!

I'm 5'3 so not that short.

Some stores have really strange sizing. I'm a 6 or 8 in most shops, but a 12 in the likes of Jane Norman!
It's called 'vanity sizing', but I fail to see how putting bigger-size tags on smaller clothes is going to make anyone feel good about themselves.
